Recycling centre in Puerto

Hi Been going here for a couple of years with no probs, turned up today with garden rubbish and the man in duty asked for my NIE no. luckily I keep the number on me and then which town I am from , is this a new thing or is there a reason?

It's not that new. I went to Punto Limpio in the industrial area in PDR over three months ago and they asked me for my NIE and location of residence. A guy who did my bathroom a couple of months ago told me the reason but I forgot. He told me that now he has to pay when he wants to dump things over there with his van. However, that wouldn't apply to me, he said, because I'm a simple dweller getting rid of house stuff and don't do it for work, don't have a IVA (VAT) number.

Oh yes, I think I remember now, he said that they privatized them.

They've been asking for NIE and place of residence for about a year now. They also record what waste you take there.
I thought it was to stop businesses taking recycling/rubbish there.
