A solo circumnavigated participant in the north of Fuerteventura.
Last night the 66-year-old American sailor Guy de Boer participated in the Golden Global Race, the solo round the world, ran his boat aground in the north of Fuerteventura, next to the beach of El Hierro, in the area known as "right of the Germans".

The sailor managed to get out of the boat by his own foot and took refuge on the beach, at a time when the force of the waves was quite discreet. He was helped by members of civil protection and firefighters from La Oliva.
De Boer intended and had a good chance of becoming the first American skipper to win the round the world alone aboard his 1986 Toshiba 36, now docked in the north of Fuerteventura.

The 66-year-old has competed on a wide variety of boats, from boats to Maxis as helmsman, tactician, navigator and crew, sailing more than 25,000 miles in competitive regattas; the longest is the 802-mile race from Los Angeles to Cabo San Lucas.

One of the issues that already seem clear of the rise of the disturbance to the islands that is brewing to the south of the archipelago is the rise in the force of the sea that will arrive from Monday.

Waves of more than four meters in some areas, especially in the north of the island, will almost certainly take guy de Boer's boat participating in the Golden Global Race, the solo round the world, which ran aground his boat in the north of Fuerteventura, next to the beach of El Hierro, in the area known as "right of the Germans".

The difficulty of getting the boat out in recent days now has a sword of Damocles, since if it does not withdraw before Monday, "it is most likely that the strong waves will end up destroying it," say the experts of the area.

They manage to save Guy de Boer's boat that was ramming in the north of Fuerteventura.
The proximity of Hermine and the bad sea on Monday endangered the integrity of the sailboat.
Last Saturday 17 the 66-year-old American sailor Guy de Boer participated in the Golden Global Race, the solo round the world, ran his boat aground in the north of Fuerteventura, next to the beach of El Hierro, in the area known as "right of the Germans".
The sailor managed to get out of the boat by his own foot and took refuge on the beach, at a time when the force of the waves was quite discreet. He was helped by members of civil protection and firefighters from La Oliva.
A week later the Maxodiver team together with Transportes Majoreros and Gruasfuer achieved what seemed an impossible task due to the situation in which the sailboat had been on the low. With all the available expertise and knowledge of the area, the professionals of these companies managed, to Guy's satisfaction, to save the ship, which sooner or later will accompany the famous American sailor on his solo journeys.
