A hundred electrical incidents on public roads due to strong wind gusts!
Endesa receives in just 36 hours a hundred telephone calls managed through the fault call center (CAT) and the registry of the website itself, requesting the urgent intervention of the company's operators for electrical incidents caused by the strong gusts of wind associated with the Celia storm, a meteorological phenomenon that has hit the Canary Islands.
Most of the calls came from citizens and the mayors and councilors of the different municipalities of the Canary Islands warning about the detachment of cables on public roads and electric poles that rushed dangerously to the ground affecting in certain cases road traffic. In addition, the punctual fall of several metal towers is counted, the most bulky were located in the municipalities of Moya and Candelaria. The raised electrical structures were literally bent by the force of the wind until they rushed to the ground. Remember that the wind reached at times gusts of up to 150 kilometers per hour.
In other cases, insulators, contacts between electricity conductors, as well as blown fuses were damaged, due to objects that raise the flight moved by the wind such as plastics, tarpaulins, entoldados, etc. Normally, these materials touch the lines and cause the incidence.
The most affected areas have been Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, as well as Arafo, Tuineje, El Rosario, Haría, the south of Gran Canaria and several performances in Fuerteventura and La Palma. In fact, during the morning of Tuesday, March 15, cable detachments and other incidents that required the intervention of Endesa's team of operators, through its subsidiary e-Distribución, were still occurring. While the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) extended the yellow and orange alert level by one more day, depending on the islands.
In this sense, the director of the Distribution area in the Canary Islands, Carlos Lafoz, insisted on the intense work to which the department has been subjected in the last hours, as a result of the multiple falls of electrical elements to the public road, some of them even endangering the integrity of people.
"Fortunately there has been no regret about personal injuries, but it is true that the storm has caused many electrical damages such as the fall of cables and several points of support that were completely bent. Clarify that in some cases we have acted immediately, but in others we will attend to the repairs as the Weather conditions improve, since we also have to guarantee the safety of our operators, "says the director of the Distribution area in the Canary Islands, Carlos Lafoz.
