Manuel Domínguez affirms that the distribution of minors will not be negotiated "until there are movements to ask Europe for what they have offered us"
The People's Party (PP) will present an initiative in the Congress of Deputies for the Spanish government to ask Europe for financial aid to deal with irregular immigration, a deployment of Frontex and the European Asylum Office, as well as the referral of unaccompanied minors to member countries of the European Union (EU).
"The EU has offered to deploy 3,000 Frontex agents on the coasts of the Canary Islands, in addition to economic resources, but the State continues to sit idly by. For this reason, we will not sit down again to negotiate until there are movements to ask Europe for what they have offered us," said the regional vice-president, Manuel Domínguez, in statements to the media before the meeting between senators and deputies of the formation in Gran Canaria.
The parliamentary initiative will make it possible to "clarify, once and for all, what is the situation we are experiencing in Spain in terms of migration policy and, thus, to call on the State to allow an agreement that projects the referral of unaccompanied minors to other autonomous communities", because they are exerting "unbearable pressure for autonomy", said Domínguez. at the same time he asserted that "there are not enough professionals to attend to them."

Domínguez explained that the European Commission and the member states are "willing to help the Canary Islands so that unaccompanied minors are referred to other countries", however, the "parsimony" of the Government of Spain is causing the reception centers to be on the verge of collapse. "The Canary Islands cannot be treated in the way that the State is doing. We need help and cooperation," said the regional vice-president.
The modification of article 35 of the Immigration Law has been on the table for more than a year but the divergences between the State, the PP and the Canary Islands have made an agreement impossible, which for Domínguez is of "vital importance", because "we need that minors do not continue to die at sea and that tragedies such as the one in El Hierro do not occur". The Canary Route has become the deadliest on the planet, with one person dying every 45 minutes.
This lack of understanding between administrations, when the day of the meeting had already been set, occurs before the appearance next Wednesday of the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to report on the actions taken to face the migratory crisis.
