A 44-year-old man died and a 19-year-old man was slightly injured at the same scene
On Tuesday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred on the beach of Viejo Rey, located in the town of La Pared, in the municipality of Pájara, on the island of Fuerteventura. According to the 112 Emergency and Security Coordination Center, a 44-year-old man lost his life by drowning, while a 19-year-old was slightly injured.
The emergency notice alerted about two people who were in distress on the aforementioned beach. Faced with this situation, the Emergency and Rescue Group of the Government of the Canary Islands deployed its helicopter to rescue the deceased man, a task that was successfully accomplished.
At the same time, the Salvamento en Playas personnel managed to rescue the 19-year-old bather. After being assisted on land by the Canary Islands Emergency Service, he was transferred to the General Hospital of Fuerteventura, where he is admitted with hypothermia and mild anxiety attacks.
In the rescue operation, the Pájara firefighters and the Local Police also collaborated, who provided assistance to the emergency services and were in charge of guarding the body of the deceased until the arrival of the judicial authority.
