UNICEF has awarded Fuerteventura the title 'Amiga de la Infancia', reflecting the work which the island has done to promote children's interests.
The Cabildo president, Marcial Morales, explained that "this award is the result of a process that has taken almost two years of work to write and approve a study and Plan for Children and the constitution of an Island Council for Children and Adolescents." The Cabildo is committed to promoting policies for the benefit of children.
The award will be presented to the Cabildo de Fuerteventura on November 27 in Oviedo.
