What's the weather like? - September 2022
#31
Noticias:

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has released a statement on Thursday to report on the possible formation of a tropical cyclone in the Atlantic, which could end up provoking, collaterally and not directly, a tropical storm in the Canary Islands, which will have a "strong" or "very strong" incidence in the Islands between Sunday and Monday.

Specifically, Aemet reports that the active tropical wave is currently on the coasts of Senegal and that the National Hurricane Center foresees an intensification of it and a probable evolution to a tropical depression during the next five days, which will be 60% probability. Thus, this tropical wave is expected to move north-northwest, between the Cape Verde Islands and the African coast.

With all this information, Aemet sees it likely that between Saturday 24 and Monday 26 the incidence of the tropical storm will occur in the Canary Islands, affecting the tropical wave but not impacting directly: "it is very unlikely that it will directly impact the Archipelago".

Thus, the consequences of this tropical storm in the Canary Islands will be the widespread and persistent rains and showers, accompanied by storms, throughout the Archipelago. On Saturday the intensity will be moderate but on Sunday and Monday a "strong or very strong" intensity is expected, mainly in the western islands.

In principle, according to experts, the peak day of this episode will be Sunday, when it is likely that they will accumulate around 60-100mm, except in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, where the expected amount is lower.

Since the probable tropical depression is not expected to pass over the Canary Islands, the wind will not be a generalized adverse factor, although there will be probable strong or very strong gusts from the southwest in midlands and high areas.

On the other hand, the state of the sea is expected to worsen from Sunday, with waves of more than 2 meters especially to the north and west of the island.

Here in the North of the island, it's been raining all morning. When I say raining I should point out it is really heavy rain, Just now at 12.00pm it is just easing but looks like it is going to be raining all day. Complete cloud cover, although cloud is not as dark as it was earlier.

Never known it rain this much in September before.

In Upper Corralejo, has been raining non stop for over 24 hours, some heavy downpours.

Seems to have been light for the last hour or so (4pm > 5pm).

No major flooding here, but will visit lower Corralejo later to see what's up.

Tindaya - in the 24 hours, 6pm Saturday to 6pm Sunday, we have had 8cm of rain! (Some of it thru my roof Sad  ) and I discovered my old waterproofs are no longer waterproof! Dog walks have been fun, not!

Water laying everywhere in the fields and lanes. The tarmacking by the Cabildo a couple of years ago has caused real problems. Instead of 'eating' old tarmac and laying  new they just add another layer on the top so the road surface is higher and runoffs are changed. Lots of local houses have had water running into their houses where it is diverted from it's old runoffs

A reminder to gardeners - turn off auto irrigation for a few days! And check pots - if they have saucers underneath they probably need removing for a few days to allow drainage.

My measurement of 8cm equates to 80 litres per square meter - several newspaper articles are quoting L per M3 so I thought I would clarify what my measurement was.
