OK, I will bow to your greater knowledge as I do not want to get involved in an argument we live 200 feet+ above sea level and will accept that at sea level it would have been lighter, but I still feel that it beggars belief that you can operate without insurance.

It is compulsory to have at least third party insurance for boats in Spanish waters:
See here:

Yacht insurance, Spain

In recent years Spanish yacht insurance has seen some big changes due to the huge increase during the last decade in the number of boats sailing in Spanish waters. The consequent increase in accidents and injuries has caused the government in Spain to introduce compulsory third party liability insurance for pleasure boats sailing in Spanish waters. This covers all motor yachts (including motorsailers, jet skis and jet bikes) and all sailing yachts over 6 metres.

Thanks Emmi, it just did not make sense to me that you did not a least have to have public liability insurance.

I second that sentiment John. It's been a pleasure talking with you. Over and out.

It's beached on the sand now, and the masts have been taken off.

Having no insurance was a great risk.

I wonder why they were sailing along the coast in the early hours?

We could do from hearing from the Skipper, however my thought is that they were at anchor in the bay enjoying the Beach Party from on board rather than pay a mooring fee and the anchor broke free and they drifted on the wind.

It won't be long before someone decides they were running drugs or illegal immigrants. I did my best to bring you the facts so now I'll leave you all to make up your own fake news.

I'm throwing in the towel.

A big crane arrived today and lifted it off the beach and put it on a lorry between the Carlota and Sheraton Hotels.
