The island's Cabildo commemorates the International Day Against Climate Change with the release of Pintá, a loggerhead turtle that was born in Cofete 18 years ago.
The release, on the very beach of its source, represents an important advance in the study of how this phenomenon affects marine species.
"Before its release, the specimen was equipped with a satellite tracking device, financed by the Loro Parque Foundation, which will allow its behavior to be monitored and key data on water temperature and ocean depth to be collected," the Cabildo said.
