25 victims of sexual exploitation released in the Canary Islands.
The Guardia Civil, within the framework of Operation Rupejini, has released 25 victims of sexual exploitation in the province of Las Palmas and has arrested 10 people for the crimes of trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation, Money laundering and membership of a criminal group.
Among the victims is a minor who was found by investigators in one of the 11 searches carried out. The operation lasted eight months and a large amount of computer equipment was seized, with which the organisation published the victims' advertisements on the internet, numerous card readers, more than 120,000 euros in cash, three vehicles and a motorcycle.
The investigation began at the beginning of the year, when the Civil Guard detected a trafficking network that was dedicated to recruiting victims in South America for sexual exploitation in the Canary Islands, taking advantage of their vulnerable situation.
To recruit the victims, they used deception, promising them working conditions that later did not correspond to what they found when they arrived in Spain. Initially, for their transfer, they covered the expenses of plane tickets, a fact that later generated a debt, in addition to forcing the women into prostitution.
The criminal group was perfectly organized, dividing the roles between those who were dedicated to recruitment and transportation, covering the costs of transportation from South America to Spain and the transfer from the airport to the apartment or establishment where the exploitation was carried out. Another was dedicated to posting advertisements on the Internet of the
victims.
During their exploitation, the victims were kept in the accommodations available to the organization, they were controlled day and night by other women in charge of complying with the established rules and collecting Money from clients.
The agents have carried out a total of 11 simultaneous entries and searches in the municipalities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Arrecife, all of them belonging to the province of Las Palmas.
Operation Rupejini has ended with the arrest of ten members of the network as alleged perpetrators of a crime of trafficking in human beings for the purpose of sexual exploitation, Money laundering and membership of a criminal group, and those responsible for the control of the minor are charged with the crime of inducing prostitution of minors.
The operation has been carried out by the Organic Unit of the Judicial Police of Las Palmas in collaboration with the human trafficking group of the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard. In the practice of house searches, various units belonging to the Command of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas and
GRS 8 of the Canary Islands have intervened.
The detainees and the proceedings have been brought to justice by the Court of Instruction No. 1 of San Bartolomé de Tirajana (Las Palmas).
