manager fraud investigated insurance alleged

An insurance manager investigated for alleged fraud
Radio Sintonia:

An insurance manager investigated for alleged fraud and falsification of data in vehicle policies taken out in Fuerteventura.

The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura has investigated a 49-year-old person on March 27 for his alleged involvement in seven crimes of fraud and falsification of documents. According to Police investigations, the individual, an insurance manager, processed vehicle policies at a considerably reduced cost, using the name of a deceased person, in order to take advantage of the bonuses associated with it for his seniority on his driving license.

The Civil Guard of Gran Tarajal began an investigation in October last year following the complaint of one of the injured parties when he was sanctioned for lacking Compulsory Insurance, having been driving for four months without valid insurance.

These first actions led to an exhaustive follow-up of a man, recognized as an insurance mediator for a major insurance company, operating from Puerto del Rosario, based on the data contained in the complainant's insurance policy.

Scam Procedure

The form of fraud was carried out by processing the policies of the vehicles at a considerably reduced price, using the name of a third party, who was later discovered to be deceased, who was listed as the policyholder, informing the customers that he was an acquaintance of theirs and would not have any problem. thus taking advantage of better guarantees at a lower price.

The payment of the Money was made directly to the manager and this amount was never detected as collected by the insurance company, and the insurance was registered and deregistered on the same day with non-payment of premiums to the company.

With this rapid deactivation of the newly issued policies, the situation was aggravated, as customers were left unprotected without knowledge of their situation of legal vulnerability, as they circulated without any insurance in force.

The Civil Guard carried out the appropriate Police proceedings that were made available to the Guard Court of Puerto del Rosario, not ruling out that in the ongoing investigation new victims will emerge harmed by the aforementioned scam.

Insurance Scam Prevention, Safety Tips

In order to raise public awareness of these illegal practices, it is suggested to use official and recognized contracting channels, to avoid the economic risk and lack of protection of these scams by following these tips:

Be wary of "suspiciously low" prices
Not paying cash for policies or services
Go to professional mediators authorised by the Directorate-General of Insurance and official websites of official mediators and insurance companies
Be wary of supposed distributors who do not provide prior information about the product
Be suspicious of any unsolicited and/or unknown communication, especially if it is accompanied by the communication of some kind of prize
When in doubt, always consult the official telephone numbers of the insurance companies or through the available applications.
