We went to Madeira in February with Binter, via Gran Canaria. I can well recommend the island as a holiday destination from Fuerte!
If you just want a quick visit and not stay the week needed for the direct Fue/Funchal flights, Binter are also flying from Lanzarote on a similar schedule to the Fue flights but on Sundays, 3 days a week during this period from Tenerife North and every day from GC, so plenty of options!
Although you don't get resident's discount (Madeira is Portugese) your Binter ticket includes 20kg suitcase, you can choose your seat, and you get an inflight snack. (Ours was a tuna sandwich (no choices), chocolate wafer, cup of fruit juice.)
Binter are really pushing this hard in Madeira, giving Fuerte good publicity as a holiday destination for the Madeirans.
According to some majoreros I have spoken to, Madeira was always considered their 'go to' place for honeymoons!
