Driver killed in head-on collision between a car and a truck in Fuerteventura
A female driver was killed yesterday (Monday) following a head-on collision between a car and a grua lorry on the FC-2 highway, between Tarajalejo and La Lajita in the municipality of Pájara, in Fuerteventura.
According to a report from the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES), SUC medical personnel and staff from the Gran Tarajal Health Centre arrived at the scene quickly. Still, there was nothing they could do to help the car's driver, who died from fatal injuries sustained in the accident.
The driver of the truck, a 43-year-old male, suffered neck injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance for further treatment.
Firefighters from Pájara were responsible for freeing the trapped driver from what was left of the car after the accident, while the Guardia Civil regulated traffic as the collision caused significant delays
Highway maintenance services also worked to clean and reopen the affected section of the road as quickly as possible.
