First visit since last Autumn. The place seems to be in undated with lunatics zooming around on these devices. One guy today must have been doing 40k down the cycle lane in Coralejo. A child stepping a foot off the path would have been wiped out. There is no place in a resort such as this for these lethal terrors. You can't even hear them coming

Not sure what the La Olivia Municipality (that covers Corralejo) is doing about it but down in the Antigua Municipality that includes Caleta they have recently introduced some new laws re the use of these scooters and where they can be be used.  In the opinion of many including me the new laws don't go fare enough Sad Sad

In Corralejo today a possible 13 year old girl with a 5 year old on the back no helmets at that age no licence . The bikes  with the big tyres is this safe for them and us?

The new law governing the control of electric scooters has finally been approved in the Official Bulletin of Las Palmas.


The translated text in the press release is -
 
The mayor meets with the owners of the companies that offer this service to tourists to detail and inform about its application.
The Official Gazette of the Province of Las Palmas has published this week, BOPLP 2019 no. 91, the final approval of the Ordinance regulating the use of personal mobility vehicles, VMP.
 
This Ordinance regulates the use and circulation of two-wheeled vehicles and a single square capacity not exceeding 50 cubic cm or with an electric motor with a power not exceeding 1,000 watts.
 
With this Ordinance we prevent accidents, or the improper use of these vehicles on the road and on the sidewalk outside the bike lane, says the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña.
 
Recently the mayor held a meeting with rental businessmen of this type of vehicle, informing at the request of the owners of these companies, the details of the municipal regulations, answering questions about their application with the technical advice provided by the Secretariat and the Sub Chief Inspector of the Local Police of Antigua.
 
The Ordinance establishes a norm of conduct and coexistence, which allows to develop this business activity by offering a more service to the tourist, as well as guaranteeing its proper use and therefore its coexistence with all and all pedestrians of the municipality.
 
The mayor Matías Peña, announced during the meeting, the expansion and improvement that will be carried out in the Caleta de Fuste bike lane, also between the parties a new appointment was agreed after the summer season to assess how the application of the Ordinance during these summer months and decide whether to modify, expand or restrict some of the points of the same, and adds the mayor, as said in this meeting, in the dialogue is success.
