The commercial warehouse of the Experimental Farm of Pozo Negro is under construction due to danger of collapse.

The repair works of the property have been awarded for a budget of almost half a million euros and with an execution period of one month.

An emergency work

The ship, intended for agricultural services, was greatly damaged after the heavy rains and winds caused by the Isolated Depression in High Levels (DANA) that occurred on the island in October and January, and that caused serious damage to the structure, to the point of running the risk of collapse, which is why, On March 9, through Decree number 964/2023, the first island councilor declared an emergency the contracting of the work that will allow the rehabilitation of the building at risk of collapse.

The rains, the main cause of deterioration
After an inspection to check the damage, subsidence has been identified in various spaces, due to the loss of the bearing capacity of the floor. On the other hand, the pavement has cracked and fractured in a large strip of asphalt in response to the abundant rains of recent months.

When the usual channels overflowed, there was a large accumulation of these waters around the ship. In addition, the force of runoff water and the accumulation of it has caused the loss of materials under the floor of the ship, causing the effect of seats of both the pavement and the structure.

In this way, the work that the winning company will carry out includes the repair of the crosses of San Andrés, a geotechnical campaign to study the capacity of the soil and the necessary measures, rehabilitation of the façade and the metal structure of the ship, realization of a rainwater network that evacuates both surface runoff water and rainwater from the roofs of the ship; the reinforcement of the foundation of the same and the improvement of the pavement, among others.

The 36th edition of the Agricultural, Livestock and Fisheries Fair (FEAGA) arrives.

The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, presented today, Thursday, April 27, the 36th edition of the Agricultural, Livestock and Fisheries Fair (FEAGA), which will take place from May 11 to 14 at the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm, in Antigua.

The first island councilor was accompanied by the vice president of the Institution, Juan Nicolás Cabrera; the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez; Matías Peña from Antigua; that of Betancuria, Marcelino Cerdeña Ruiz, and the councilor of Pájara, María Leticia Cabera Hernández.

Repair work at the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm
During the presentation, President Lloret announced that intense work continues so that the Pozo Negro Experimental Farm, which will host the event, is in the best conditions to welcome and serve as a stage for participants and attendees, who will delight in the aromas and flavors of the Canary Islands.

In that sense, the first insular councilor indicated that "this year we will be able to develop a fair almost with absolute normality, unlike 2022. Therefore, I appreciate the involvement that the service has had to carry out the contracting of the works and thus avoid the collapse of the ship that was at risk. The work will end these days, and we will be able to have the space available for the celebration of FEAGA ".

Likewise, President Lloret thanked the involvement of the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña, and for his collaboration to make FEAGA possible. He also thanked the Government of the Canary Islands and, in particular, the general director of Livestock, who has scheduled an agenda for the technical conferences, "an intense day of work coordinated with the sector and that we believe will be of great benefit," stressed the president.

In that sense, the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña, indicated that the city council is "to help in whatever is needed through the counseling of the Primary Sector. FEAGA is the festival of the primary sector every year, so they have to come en masse as always. From the municipality of Antigua we will collaborate without any problem and we will be there for whatever is needed".

A fair with relevance for the sector
The most important fair in the Canary Islands aimed at this sector is a boost for majorero producers. It is an opportunity to show their activity and daily work, as well as the effort and dedication involved in being part of the sector, and an essential space for the exchange of experiences between professionals and participants of the fair.

For the Insular Institution, this Fair, which will serve as a showcase for the unique flavor of the Canary Islands, must continue to be the most important for the primary sector "despite all those years of difficulties". Therefore, the first insular councilor indicated that from the Cabildo "we are already closing the file to have the credit supplements and make that economic injection again, and alleviate the crisis situation generated by the increase in the prices of energy, fuel and food, "said Sergio Lloret.

In the face of adversity, the primary sector has always had the ability to reinvent itself, improve and continue to professionalize year after year. In addition, the brand 'Product of Fuerteventura-Biosphere Reserve' has become, little by little, the demand of tourists and travelers visiting the island.

In the same line, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, indicated the importance of this event being resumed normally. "This fair has been part of the social and economic agenda of Fuerteventura for 36 years, and we must remember the embryonic way in which it began in Tefía more than three decades ago and what it has become".

For his part, the mayor of Betancuria also said that his municipality will participate in FEAGA "to the extent of our possibilities, as we have always done. The architects of this fair are the members of this sector, and they must be thanked and encouraged to participate. Without them it would be impossible to develop a fair of this caliber, and that is an economic enhancement for the primary sector. "

In the same line, the Councilor of Pájara, María Leticia Cabrera Hernández, indicated that the municipality of Pájara has a clear commitment to the primary sector, which is demonstrated with the Pájara Cheese Fair. "We are happy that FEAGA returns to total normality and we will have to remain united to move forward," he said.

A meeting for all tastes
The program of FEAGA in this edition includes previous Events and activities, from Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 May, through Agricultural Technical Days by experts and technicians in livestock, agriculture and fisheries.

On Thursday, May 11, at 19:00 p.m., the day on which the fair starts, there will be a tour of the facilities of the ship by the authorities present. It is also expected to receive attendees with a show-cooking at the Cabildo stand.

Also, from May 12 to 14, the Fair will feature various exhibitions of products and livestock, food processing, seminars, talks, agricultural market, dance shows and live music, contests, wine tastings, sports exhibitions, among other activities.

Around 30,000 people passed through FEAGA 2022, a success of affluence thanks to the involvement of organizers, participants, public, companies, exhibitors and, above all, workers in the primary sector.

Wow!

Went along today and had a great time. Weather was sunny, a few clouds, and very strong winds which kept it quite temperate even though you had to hold on to your hats! (Free straw hats given out on arrival!)

Loads of free tasters: cheeses, olives, tomatoes, biscuits, cakes, wines.

Best thing I ate/drank all day? A fresh strawberry slush puppy - to die for. Not cheap but worth every cent.

Other drinks worth mentioning - I was very impressed with the coffee served by a catering van (Pepitos) just inside the entrance and around to the left. They weren't the quickest to make the coffee but it was worth the wait.

There were loads of stalls to buy food and drinks from, some in a large warehouse/tented area, so shaded and protected from the wind, others dotted around the show ground.

Toilets - 2 blocks of permanent loos available, kept clean and replenished all day. 2 or 3 sets of portaloos in different locations - I saw a company replenishing them several times.

Saw several Canarian sports being practiced. Some horse-riding going on. Food prep demos. Show of Canarian Presa dogs - enormous! Loads of farm animals (cows, bulls, goats, donkeys, chickens, sheep) on show/in competition. Camels (with babies) on show from Oasis Zoo. Big warehouse with more commercial displays, tractors, cars, boats, farming stuff air cooling systems, water storage, fruit trees etc. Cheese competition. Some craft stalls.

I was on site for 5 hours and was looking at some, thing different all the time (apart from repeat coffee stops!).

I have loads of pics that I was going to load, via Imgur, but my preferred method (clicking on the Insert an Image icon) now just gives the space for the url and not an option to determine the size (width etc) of the pic. (I'm using Edge browser) Anyone know a way around this?

I can do them as 'attachments' but prefer the option where I can size them myself.
