Most of those evicted by the fire returned to their homes yesterday.
3,109 people remain evacuated from some areas of Tacoronte, Güímar, El Sauzal and Santa Úrsula
The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, announced today that finally the fire allows us to give good news, since an important part of the population can return to their homes. "We now ask for responsibility and collaboration to clean the combustible material from the surroundings of the houses, restrict movements to allow access to emergency services and maintain caution, as the fire is still active," he added.
Today 8,355 people have returned from the municipalities of La Victoria and Los Realejos, as well as most of the residents of El Rosario, El Sauzal, La Matanza, Santa Úrsula and La Orotava. 3,109 people remain evacuated. This situation has allowed the closure of the shelters in El Rosario and La Orotava, while those enabled in La Victoria, La Matanza and Los Realejos remain open.
The areas that remain evacuated preventively are the surroundings of Las Lagunetas, within the municipalities of El Rosario and La Matanza; from San Cristóbal to the mountain in El Sauzal; the area of El Farrobillo and the upper area of Vera del Barranco in Santa Úrsula, in addition to Izaña and the National Parador of El Teide, in La Orotava.
Clavijo indicated that today has been an intense and hard day due to the high temperatures and that these Weather conditions will continue, which will cause reactivations, but the population must maintain tranquility because we have a wide firefighting device. In this regard, the president wanted to thank the work of all the extinction groups that have been working at high altitude for 7 days, with fireproof suits, with a lot of heat, before which we can only transfer our recognition and collaboration.
The president of the Cabildo, Rosa Dávila, joined the gratitude and extended it to those responsible for all the affected municipalities that have enabled their pavilions to welcome people who have needed it, as well as to all the organizations that have lent their support, as well as the close collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare by facilitating the relocation in hotels of people with reduced mobility so that they can have more comfort.
Also the direction of the Emergency asks the neighbors who return to their homes to carry out cleaning work in a security strip of 15 meters around the house with security strip to protect their homes.
The authorities recalled that air quality remains very unfavourable due to smoke, which is composed of a mixture of gases and small particles emitted by the combustion of vegetation and other materials, mainly in the municipalities of Los Realejos, La Orotava and Arafo, but also in the municipalities of the northern and southern slopes. so we must continue to maintain the same self-protection recommendations.
During the day will continue to work in the area 20 aerial means, two of them in coordination tasks, since a helicopter of the Ministry has suffered a breakdown and one of the Cabildo has been inoperative after receiving the impact of a stone in the rotor
By land, the device is made up of 610 troops, of which 255 are direct intervention, 197 security, 40 logistics and 160 volunteers from different municipal groups.
According to the technicians, at the moment the fire is largely perimeter, except in Güímar, where it remains active in the area of Mal Abrigo. However, there are many hot spots inside that are reactivated in the central hours of the day and that can even exceed some control line.
Despite being complicated, in the area of Mal Abrigo a spectacular job has been done during the day, from the technical point of view, which has allowed to improve the situation. However, the technicians reiterate that it has not been possible to close in the ravine bottoms despite the discharges with aerial means and that these tasks will continue tomorrow. The weak point of the fire is located on the slope of Anocheza, in Güímar, since it can open towards Fasnia where discharges with retardant have been made to try to ensure that in the event of upward races in the ravines the fire is stopped.
The area affected by the fire reaches 14,751 hectares, with 100 more in the municipality of Güímar.
