Cotillo have just lost 5-3 away at Tacoronte and so are relegated. The dream is no more .... Surprised they conceded 5 as they have looked very solid at the back recently. But they clearly needed to win so who knows what formation they played ... Anyway it is all over after 37 games which is remarkable after the first half of the season ...

If they keep the same setup next year in the Preferente they must have a decent chance of going back up.

Puerto won with a penalty scored in the 40th minute.

In the Preferente, Gran Tarajal beeat Balos 4-2 at home.  They are top of the league.  Teror and Estrella are just behind them, so it's all to play for in next weekend's final game of the season.

Today's result:
CD Cotillo   2   Marino   1

The relegated clubs are Las Zocas (Tenerife), CD Cotillo (Fuerteventura) and Union Sur Yaiza (Lanzarote).
Union Puerto finished 14th but only escaped relegation by 2 points.

As it turns out 44 points would not have been enough for Cotillo anyway as Panaderia has a better GD. So last week’s loss didn’t affect anything.

All this plus the top team only getting 67 points shows just how tight the league has been with all teams capable of beating most of the others.

If Cotillo had started better things would have been very different. Fingers crossed they can come back stronger .... they only had 12 points after the first 21 games so collected 29 points from the last 17 games.

What is the next level down? Big difference in standard? Conceivable that Cotillo will keep the team together?

The next level down is the Preferente League with teams from Lanzote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria in it.  Unfortunately there's only one team from Fuerteventura currently in it - Gran Tarajal.  Fortunately they are top of the league with one game to play. Hopefully they'll replace Cotillo.

I travelled on the same planes as Union Puerto on Saturday. They were full of beans as we left Fuerte around 8am and rather more subdued as we left Tenerife around 7pm - it's a long old day for these lads when they have to travel between the islands every other week.
There were also several guys going over for a Lucha tournament and some girls in sports kit, sport unknown. Do they get travel concessions on top of the resident's discount does anyone know?
