A hunter mistakenly shoots a civil guard in Lanzarote.
A hunter has shot a Rural Guard (SEPRONA) in the municipality of Yaiza (Lanzarote, Canary Islands). It happened on September 18 in the natural environment of the Degollada, within the framework of a hunting day coordinated by security agents of the Civil Guard and the SEPRONA. The first information suggests that the hunter, trying to shoot down a partridge in flight, accidentally hit the affected person, who was shot in the face.
Different divisions of the Civil Guard prepared, as usual, a surveillance and control device that would cover the entire island of Lanzarote, so that the hunting activity was carried out in accordance with the law on the aforementioned hunting day, preventing, for example, the action of hunters who do not have the necessary permits.
One of these teams, formed by a Rural Guard and a Civil Guard, identified two hunters and asked for their documentation. Then, and after checking that everything was in order, the hunter would have sighted a partridge and set out to kill it, missing his shot and wounding the rural agent.
According to the local media El Peje Verde, the hunter damaged one of the ears and part of the head of the wounded, even affecting one of his eyes. The aggressor was handcuffed and transferred to the Costa Teguise barracks, and was released hours later. This hunter could face a prison sentence, fine and withdrawal for life of any type of firearm or hunting license. The injured guard is out of danger and has declined to file any complaint.
