CCOO calls a strike on regular intercity passenger transport in the province of Las Palmas.
Fuerteventura News Editorial
The Federation of Citizen Services of the Canary Islands Workers' Commissions (FSC-CCOO) has registered a strike in the regular intercity road passenger transport sector for general use in the province of Las Palmas, which will affect the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria.
The decision was made after observing the lack of progress at the negotiating table for the collective bargaining agreement, which was established in January 2025. Despite the union's proposals, the employers' association, represented by the Association of Regular Passenger Transport Companies (ARV), has not presented a clear counterproposal nor has it shown any willingness to reach an agreement that guarantees equal working conditions in the province.
Reasons for the strike
The main triggers for the call for action include the stagnation in the negotiation of the sectoral agreement, the employers' intention to replace the agreement with a framework agreement that would fragment rights and thwart the homogenization of working conditions, the refusal to guarantee the agreement's stable validity until 2032, and the employers' rejection of a unified salary scale that would avoid inequalities between workers performing the same activity.
The strike aims to secure the signing of a provincial collective bargaining agreement, the inclusion of staff subrogation in the event of contract or concession changes, a reduction in working hours to 37.5 hours per week, wage standardization, and the full incorporation of new legal provisions regarding permits and licenses, as well as equal working conditions for all sector employees in the province of Las Palmas.
Calendar of strikes
The strikes will take place in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura on September 15 and 16, continuing on successive days with intermittent work stoppages from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. In Gran Canaria, the strike will begin on September 17 and 18, with the same intermittent work stoppage regime.
Openness to dialogue
The Strike Committee and FSC-CCOO reaffirm their willingness to resume dialogue with employer representatives, either directly or through the Canary Islands Labor Court, with the goal of reaching an agreement that guarantees rights and puts an end to the conflict.
