KD Ohana Restaurant
#1
Information
Had breakfast there Saturday morning, food was lovely, unusual to have haggis, white pudding, tatie scone, Cumberland sausage and Lincolnshire sausage on a menu in Caleta. The girl Karina explained it’s her and her partner Dave that have started the business, she’s serving he’s cooking, so probably explains the reason for service being slow. We can’t see how they are making a profit with the 8 item for €5.50 breakfast.
Will we be back again ? Hell YES
So we did :-
4 of us went to KD Ohana yesterday evening for dinner, Karina explained more about their operations and as at this moment there is only her and her partner Dave who does all the cooking. All cooking is made fresh no reheats or part cooked being finished hence the reason service might be a bit slower than what you are used to.
We had an excellent meal, started was garlic bread, we were going to order 4 portions but Karina told us there were 4 pieces per portion so we ordered 2 portions between the 4 of us. there was Scampi and homemade chips, Chillie con carne with rice and chips, cottage pie with chips, and mine which was a giant homemade Yorkshire pudding filled with a savoury mince in a beautiful flavoursome gravy and the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had in Fuerteventura, with carrots green beans (and peas if you want them which I didn’t) Normally when you get mash in Fuerteventura they either put to much butter or milk through it and it is sloppy. NOT HERE, I got lovely fluffy mash with just the right amount of butter only criticism was I would like a squeeze of black pepper and salt through my mash, but I was able to add this.
I had 2 glasses of red wine a Chilean merlot, my wife had an Italian Pinot Gricio, and the others had Diet Coke and fizzy waters. Total bill €70.50, very good value especially for the quality. The wine was the Jack Rabbit brand never had it before and really very nice, came in those small glass bottles.

I am really excited to see how this young couple develop their restaurant and look forward to dining there again before we go home, especially as it is literally across the road from my apartment.

We, all 4 of us wish Karina and Dave the very best wishes for 2024.

Thanks for an excellent write-up Can! For people who are not familiar with Caleta please could you explain where this restaurant is, how to find it?

No problem Tamara, it is at the top of the road where the bus station is with the castle on the roundabout.
It is the avenue of Juan Soto Morales.

We concur with the above comments on Ohana,s, you can not fault the quality, or in fact, the quantity of the food there, the issue with the speed of service, I am sure they will resolve, and we will continue to use our normal haunt for breakfasts, simply because they are much of a muchness and the two ladies who run where we use now have become friends but will add it to a very small list of places we will use for lunch or dinner, they are a lovely couple and I am sure they will succeed.
