And the bad news, for some, is that they are not using La Concha Beach at El Cotillo anymore. No idea why, but would be interesting to find out. I have emailed the organisers but as it is now termed the Corralejo International Kite Festival, I suspect we have lost out for the sponsorship deal.

Kites are already flying in Fuerteventura.

The 36th edition of the International Kite Festival of Corralejo, in Fuerteventura, kicks off with the participation of more than 200 kitemakers

NEWSROOMFUERTEVENTURA

The 36th edition of the Corralejo International Kite Festival is already tinging the skies of Fuerteventura with colour and movement. On this occasion, the festival, which runs until next Sunday, November 12, has brought together about 210 cometists from twenty different countries including Germany, Italy, Holland and Spain. Many of them are already testing the wind conditions in an exhibition day that took place at La Concha Beach, in El Cotillo, with clear skies, a multitude of curious onlookers and an extraordinary temperature in the middle of November.

Kites of all sizes and colors were already taking the pulse of the wind, which has reached more than 25 kilometers per hour, a preamble to a weekend in which the conditions are expected to be good. La Concha today offered both the spectacle of the huge static kites and the movement of the acrobatic kites.

Among the visitors of the day, almost a hundred schoolchildren from CEIP Puerto del Rosario and CEIP El Tostón, as well as users of the Adivia Association. Isaí Blanco, Mayor of La Oliva, the organising municipality, underlined the event's dedication to preserving the environment and promoting sustainability: "The International Kite Festival is an iconic event that has been an essential part of life in La Oliva over the years. It embodies a harmonious connection between tourism and the environment, and we will continue to advocate for its preservation."

The festival was attended by the Councilor for Tourism and Environment of the City of La Oliva, David Fajardo, the Councilor for Sports and Youth, Gleiber Carreño and the Councilor for Finance and Contracting Juan José Rodríguez. Fajardo stressed that this festival brings together precisely "all the attractions of the municipality of La Oliva, kilometers of golden sand, a spectacular climate in the middle of winter, biodiversity and virgin territory, active tourism and family activities respectful of the environment."

In fact, in this edition the City Council of La Oliva wanted to pay special relevance to the protection of the natural area of Las Dunas de Corralejo, not only through a special bus service to attend the event, but also with a series of guides who will guide visitors on the trails to travel through so as not to damage the endemic flora of the area. Already this Friday from 10:00 a.m. the inaugural flight will take place in Las Grandes Playas de Corralejo, a location that repeats for the second consecutive year after the resounding success of the last edition.
