The La Oliva City Council continues with the campaign to remove abandoned vehicles in the municipality. The Departments of Environment and Traffic, headed by David Fajardo and Christian Rodríguez respectively, have managed to initiate a total of 77 files on unused cars on public roads since the beginning of the project in November 2023 to date. The objective of the campaign is to tackle the abandonment of vehicles on the streets, to achieve a better urban environment for the residents of the municipality.
The large number of neglected cars scattered along public roads has been the reason why the local government has decided to launch the campaign. This problem affects different areas of the municipality, especially towns such as Corralejo, a place where locals and visitors have difficulties when it comes to finding parking. During this season, the joint work of the Councillors has made it possible to remove 44 vehicles from the total of 77 proceedings initiated. Thus, 29 of these cars were removed by the owners at the request of the administration, while the public institution was responsible for sending the remaining 15 to the CAT.
The Mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, says: “It is essential for us to improve every corner of the municipality. Through this campaign, we have achieved this, because the urban environment of La Oliva is renewed and we have thus managed to beautify the streets while being more conscious and sustainable.”
The Councillor for the Environment, David Fajardo, comments on the importance of continuing with the campaign for the area around La Oliva: “After taking stock of the results obtained throughout this year, the data confirm that we have achieved our goal of tackling this type of waste that occupies part of the public road and prevents parking.” Furthermore, Fajardo has highlighted: “Not only this, but we have also been able to stop the large number of abandoned cars that spill harmful liquids on the roads and thus make our municipality unsightly.”
The Councillor for Traffic, Christian Rodríguez, reminds citizens of the possibility of: “continuing to make use of the regulations to dispose of vehicles responsibly. We have to continue with this dynamic and manage to eradicate, as far as possible, all those vehicles that have reached the end of their useful life.”
This action works in line with the local government's objective of maintaining a clean public road in harmony with the municipality. Thus, it seeks to be environmentally friendly, while having a direct impact on the town of La Oliva.
