The PSOE proposes an immediate action for the conservation of the Mirador de Morro Velosa.
"The facilities are in a state of lamentable abandonment and César Manrique's footprint on our island deteriorates for days"
The Socialist Group in the Cabildo proposes an immediate action of conservation and maintenance to alleviate the state of deterioration that the Mirador de Morro Velosa currently has. "It would be desirable that the intervention in the building be carried out in a consensual manner with the César Manrique Foundation and with the architect author of the initial project, with the intention that the "footprint" of César Manrique be taken into account for any action in this infrastructure so emblematic for our Island. "
From the Socialist Group "we deeply regret the situation of abandonment in which the Mirador de Morro Velosa is currently located, located in the municipality of Betancuria, a public facility, owned by this institution, and which has been closed to the public for years and without use. "
"The facility was closed to the public for security reasons in May 2019. It was worked from the outset by the previous government team in the tender for its reform and improvement, being able to verify through the decrees and in the same contracting platform, taking into account the pandemic situation and the paralysis of administrative procedures in 2020, the reality is that the services for the drafting of projects and project management works were already in tender in November 2020 and coordination of Safety and Health of the same in Centers of the Network of Museums: Mirador de Morro Velosa, in Faro del Tostón and Cueva del Llano for an amount of 50,368 and being 9 lots to be awarded. From this file the last date that appears on the contracting platform of 07/12/2021, where several lots are deserted and others are awarded, "says the press release.
"The current reality shows a regrettable situation, every day that passes the deterioration is greater and while several minor contracts have been made it is assumed that to repair the tank, for the OCA, for wood, for photovoltaic installation ... as it appears in the different memories, but it seems science fiction when you observe the state of deterioration they have in reality, "explain the socialists.
This situation has been denounced throughout the year 2021 and so far in 2022, in fact several media have echoed this situation, for example in the Diario de Canarias.es on 04/12/2022 they insist that the center as they are informed from the Island Council remains closed for security reasons, because tiles are coming off. According to them "Access to visitors to the outdoor area has been rehabilitated during the weekends, from 7 in the morning to 7 in the afternoon." The passage is left rolled to the top. It is also insisted in the same medium that in the portal of the Network of Museums it is pointed out about this Mirador that it is "the footprint, contribution that César Manrique made to Fuerteventura".
"Although the truth is that the César Manrique Foundation does not recognize the Mirador de Morro Velosa as one of the artist's works because in the process of construction and finishing is where the artist intervened most and where he projected his most visible creative and aesthetic stamp for the viewer and unfortunately on this occasion it could not be so. "
"It is a pity that the architect responsible for this project has not been able to participate in modification because she has not been counted, as she says, nor with the César Manrique Foundation itself. Everyone knows that Cesar's idea was to reduce the visual impact of this viewpoint and that he designed a logo for it that was not done either, "explain the socialists.
The Socialists continue to argue that "the reality is that this building that was inaugurated in the mid-90s closed its doors three years ago and so it continues. The reality is that if César were there, he would not allow his name to be linked to the unfortunate situation that this infrastructure currently presents."
They affirm "that residents and tourists cannot have access to this facility and feel deceived because through different pages a totally different reality is sold. It is sold as "elegant plant house, wooden porch and tile roof is dressed in the colors of the landscape itself that shows. Inside, visitors can learn about the geological past of this volcanic island, see an excellent model of the island and stop for coffee en route to the island's ancient capital, Betancuria."
