The Civil Guard in Gran Canaria in coordination with the Directorate of Surveillance of the Moroccan Territory (DGST), on May 10 became aware of a possible operation to introduce drugs into Fuerteventura, seizing more than 1,610 kilos of hashish in 46 bales, on the beach of Los Mozos, in the municipality of Betancuria.

The patrol boat of the Fuerteventura Detachment of the Provincial Maritime Service of Las Palmas, within the framework of its functions of control of the territorial sea and specifically the prevention of smuggling and drug trafficking, on May 10 at around 03:00 a.m. detected a suspicious boat to the west of the island of Fuerteventura. near Aguas Verdes (Betancuria).

For this reason, a Police device made up of members of the Judicial Police and Citizen Security patrols was activated in to control the possible cache on some of the beaches in that area.

After the Civil Guard boat approached the boat detected as a possible narco-boat, the agents were able to observe how two crew members were sailing on it with numerous packages inside.

The operational device that was activated was able to verify the participation of at least five individuals and a vehicle that fled in the face of the Police presence

Upon noticing the presence of the patrol boat, the boat began to flee towards Los Mozos Beach, from where a series of light signals could be noticed by means of using spotlights or flashlights.

Finally, after the follow-up carried out by the patrol boat of the Maritime Service, the crew managed to reach the aforementioned beach and were forced to abandon it, and flee the place with three other people, as well as an all-terrain vehicle from the vicinity.

The agents took charge of the boat, which was loaded with numerous empty drums of fuel, two engines and a total of 46 bales, containing more than 1610 kilos of hashish inside.

The investigation remains open, not ruling out future arrests by the Guardia Civil.
