The government promises that there will be Autonomous Police in Fuerteventura in this legislature.
The Government of the Canary Islands will deploy the Canary Islands Police force on the eight islands before the end of the legislature, starting with Lanzarote and La Gomera, where work is already underway with the councils to do so. This was promised on Tuesday by the President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, and the Minister of the Presidency, Justice, Security and Public Administrations, Nieves Lady Barreto, during a visit to the Canary Islands Security Academy and the regional Police barracks in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
There, Clavijo has valued that security in the Archipelago "is one of the most precious assets", so it is convenient "to have a powerful body deployed on the islands to maintain something that is highly valued by those who visit us and of course by the citizens in general". Likewise, the nationalist has taken the opportunity to highlight the "degree of professionalism of the training", which he has described as intense and which guarantees that the agent who takes office does so "with all the guarantees".
The President of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, today visited the Canary Islands Security Academy and the Headquarters of the General Corps of the Canary Islands Police where he toured the training classrooms and facilities for practical shooting and motorcycle riding classes. Also in attendance were the Minister of the Presidency, Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Nieves Lady Barreto, and the Deputy Minister of the Presidency, Alfonso Cabello.
During the tour, Fernando Clavijo and Nieves Lady Barreto were able to see how 110 agents of the Autonomous Police and Local Police are trained together, in addition to checking the operation of the shooting gallery, the canine unit, the specialists in computer crimes or the drones, which are used to act in fires, large Events, etc. rescue work or adverse Weather Events. In this sense, the regional president has deepened that training should not be limited to those first years of the agents, but should be "continuous over time".
The Canary Islands Police foresees a call for 61 places this 2024, to which are added the additional 100 that will be promoted by the regional government
Likewise, the nationalist was able to see first-hand the need for the shooting gallery, used both by the Civil Guard and by members of local Police from other municipalities, to be compatible with the use of larger caliber weapons, since right now it is conditioned only to practice with weapons of a nine-millimeter caliber.
For his part, Barreto recalled that the Academy was created at the time to train agents and continue to expand its workforce. However, as he has estimated, at the moment there are a total of 278 officers of the Canary Islands Police in the Islands, although a call for 61 places is still planned for this year and that, in addition, in the 2024 accounts there is another item for another 100 additional places.
