If you have a time-limited NIE, then it does need to be updated.

Archer how can you tell if your NIE is time limited?

Some months ago management lost her NIE card, actually binned it when she received her new plastic health card binned the old card one and binned her NIE card as well Rolleyes, got loads of well intentioned adviceRolleyes  on how difficult it was going to be and how long it would take all of which turned out to be rubbish we turned up at The Police Station without an appointment, and without an interpreter,  within 5 mins we were directed to a print shop around the corner, we explained what were trying to do both of the staff speak excellent English, she  took all the info printed of the necessary forms, we then went to our bank as you have to pay 12€ tax get the form stamped then went back to the Police Station and 10 mins later walked out with a new NIE cannot remember what the print shop charged, but it was not a lot, the whole process tok just under an hour, I a wondering if you go directly to the print shop and explain what you require they would complete the paperwork for you, maybe worth popping in and asking?

For some bizarre reason, a few years ago "they" were issuing NIE numbers with a initial three months validity only, and it clearly stated this at the bottom of the page. Apparently it was easy enough to renew, but a pain in the back side!

That brainwave of an idea, was soon scrapped though, and it went back to normal not long after.

John you mention an NIE card, our NIE's are on  A4 paper and are endorsed with a seal. Our Residencia with NIE numbers on them are small green cards that we got copies of and plastic holders for from a print shop near the Police station.

Hi, John, I am referring to the green cards, we do not and have never had anything on A4 other than the el Padrons from the Ayumento, but the point I was trying to make was it was simple to replace it, and is possibly simple to obtain.
