Scam of 50,000 euros for the false rental of a house in Corralejo.
The Equipo@ of the island of Fuerteventura, identified on September 13 a person resident in the province of La Rioja, 21 years old and without a record, for the alleged authorship of a crime of fraud, having deceived thirteen people residing in Fuerteventura, getting them to transfer the amount of 50,000 euros for the rent of a house that does not exist, supposedly located in the town of Corralejo.
Occurrence of the facts
The Civil Guard was aware as a result of the complaints filed by several people in dependencies of the Post of Puerto del Rosario and the Main Post of Corralejo, in which the affected people communicate the intention to book and rent a house on the island of Fuerteventura.
In addition, the advertiser demands a rent of 900 euros per month, and once he manages to capture the victim he demands the payment of various amounts of Money, as a deposit or indicating that there are more people interested in housing, so he asks for the advance of more monthly payments to reserve the house.
The conversations carried out with the advertiser are always through several emails, since the alleged scammer never provides the victim with a contact telephone number.
The scam was carried out, through the advertisement on a website widely used by users who want to rent houses to enjoy a few days of vacation, homes supposedly located on the island of Fuerteventura.
When the victims travel to the place where they had stayed with the advertiser, the author of the facts does not appear at the place, verifying the defrauded person that its legitimate owners reside in the house.
Investigations and identification
The Equipo@ of the island of Fuerteventura in the exercise of its specific functions in the field of Cybercrime, collected all the data on the Events that occurred, realizing that the alleged fraudster had used the website as a tool to attract the victim, publishing a false rental advertisement with a house that did not correspond to reality, and once he obtained the rent Money in advance, he disappeared without a trace.

The Civil Guard advises that when you identify a house that you want to rent, it is first verified that it exists, and that in addition the alleged landlord has access to it, asking for an appointment in the place, informing with a neighbor, etc.
Distrust landlords who send all the documentation via telematics and avoid identifying themselves in person, since in this type of scams criminals usually use false or impersonated documentation.
