Shops & supermarkets under lockdown!

Are you sure Sam? Have you been there?

Am I asking too much, or have all the shops been shut down?

I thought I might start a few diy projects. But I need some materials. Obviously they are not considered 'esential' items, so I cannot justify going out to buy paint etc, but has any enterprising company thought of taking telephone/online orders and delivering? Like Monto or Ideal?

Or is it against the rules?

Maybe after Friday when the business restrictions are relaxed? Any ideas?

I'm not aware of business restrictions being relaxed this weekend, where have you heard that?
A number of ferreterias are open, likely with reduced hours, Marcial for instance in Corralejo. I would imagine that there would be ferreterias open in most locations.

Thanks. Marcial is too far away. Cannot justify travelling that far. Haven't seen any local to me. I'll look tomorrow whilst going to the supermarket.

El Pais said "The proposed extension of the state of alarm does not apply to the emergency decree announced by Sánchez last Saturday that suspended all non-essential activity until Thursday April 9. That means that these sectors should be able to resume activity after Easter."

Anyone else know anyone delivering??

There was an Electron van delivering in our street yesterday, what they were delivering I have no idea, but that would suggest that Ideal can as well.

Some one on our development took the risk, rightly or wrongly (wrongly in my opinion), and had been to Ideal last week for paint so ideal and Electron are I believe part of the same company the Ideal store at Gran Tarajal may also be open and deliver.

My original DIY post seems to have been tacked onto another, here??

Today I took the trip to Padilla in GT today. Didn't feel as secure as I did in Mercadona in Butihondo.

Guy didn't wipe down the trolley - just handed me one given straight back from the previous customer. Santising gel appeared to have expired! No paper towels, and gloves just laid on the side. Less space between customers and I didn't feel comfortable in Fruit & Veg - far too many people huddled together, and many customers without masks and not adhering to the distancing rules! Loads of people around outside, as well - is lockdown still on here?? No Police or Guardia anywhere.

I think I'll risk being stopped and go to Mercadona next time.

Ref: For my DIY supplies. I needed a Water boiler today, as well, so swung by Ideal at Cuchillete on the way to GT.

IDEAL WAS CLOSED.

Cofemax however was open, but they had tape across many products "Prohibito". Don't understand reasoning as paint, tools and cement etc were available.

Lagenbecker by the GT Harbour was also open but the 'heavy-side' yard was closed. You had to stand behind a tape, in little boxes, and then shout what you wanted when your turn came. But then they approached you when you had to pay.

Out of pure curiosity, what kind of items were marked prohibited? Maybe they are trying to preserve supplies for essential workers or builders for emergency work in case of a shortage?

Ducks, to be honest didn't take too much notice. All the hardaare was taped off, as were big appliances in the middle of the shop, but not small appliances in the entrance.
No idea why.

Paint = essential?? A Spanish woman was holding everyone up trying to choose the colour/type of paint. Then rang her partner.  Smile

Big appliances taped off?! Maybe they just don't want people touching them and know that if someone is serious about purchase, they will contact a member of staff?

I would certainly consider someone needing a replacement fridge or hob a lot more essential than some paint!
