Stand Up Paddle in Corralejo
#1
Radio Sintonia:

The bay of Corralejo becomes the perfect setting for the practice of Stand Up Paddle.

In a statement issued by the City Council of La Oliva it is reported that during this week, the bay of Corralejo hosted the theoretical and practical classes of the ORTraining Training Camp, in which regional, national and international athletes of Stand Up Padel (SUP) could be formed by the hand of Espe Barreras and Oscar Ruiz of the ORTraining club.

Favourable conditions

In the water sessions they encountered all kinds of conditions, from days of challenging wind to unforgettable sessions of perfect waves, so the athletes could get the most out of these five days of training that made them enjoy and learn equally.

In the classroom, they also developed topics of technique, material, nutrition, preparation of competitions, which made everyone end up with very good feedback of the week.

"Betting on sport, and especially on the sport-tourism binomial, will make La Oliva aware of its great potential for the practice of almost any sport. Thanks to the commitment to this type of training we will be able to create local quarry that will have a positive impact on us in the very near future, "said the mayor of La Oliva, Pilar González.

"Thanks to the collaboration with the ORTraining Club, we have been able to take advantage of this water sport to place La Oliva on the map of the world of SUP, making known our idyllic places for this sport," said the Councilor for Sports, Rafael Benítez.

La Oliva, sports destination

La Oliva has favorable conditions to practice Stand Up Paddle, which means that every year more athletes choose it as a sports destination.
Next week, the ORTraining Club will have a concentration of its National Team athletes in La Oliva, to do a training cycle together and prepare the first international competitions of the year.

BUT if they extend the harbour then the existing wave system will disappear.
After the mishap with the new pontoons(near the ferry terminal) there is now a movement among some elements to block any further solid development in a southerly direction.
Also there is a real risk to the angel shark and baby hammerheads.
