UK Have Added Essential Travel Only Canary Islands And Balearic Islands

So that puts our planned Xmas and New Year trip in jeopardy  

Is this only Brexit politics??

Sad news for the businesses, many were counting on the Christmas season.
I don't think this has anything to do with Brexit although it's a shame the UK gov is rating every Greek island separately but all Canary Islands as one. But what do we, peasants know.

I wonder if that's an issue with the UK gov, or the Spanish one?

I have just checked FCDO (FCO) and The Canary Islands seem to be still excluded from the essential travel only, hope it will last.


The FCDO advises against all but essential travel to:

• Spain, including the Balearic Islands but excluding the Canary Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.
  

If you are returning to the UK from the Canary Islands on or after 4am on 12 December, you will need to self-isolate on your return. You must still self-isolate if returning to the UK from any other part of Spain. Some exemptions apply.

Spain have announced they will be restricting passenger travel on inbound flights from the UK from Tuesday 22 December, with the exception of Spanish nationals and those legally resident in Spain. If you were due to travel to Spain please contact your travel operator before departure.

If you are resident in Spain, you should carry your residence document (the green paper EU residence certificate or the new TIE), as well as your valid passport when you travel. If you have applied but not yet received your document, carry proof you have started the registration process. Padron certificates, utility bills and property deeds will not be accepted by Spanish authorities as proof of residency.

Apologies if this seems a really stupid question and is perhaps in the incorrect thread, this is my first post.

I'm British and currently in Madeira and due to fly to Fuerteventura via Gran Canaria on the 31st.
I own my own apartment in Fuerteventura, but am non resident.
I am due to take a PCR test in Madeira within 72 hours of my arrival in Gran Canaria.
I wonder if someone could please clarify if, being non resident and British in the current climate could result in my being refused entry.
There does seem to be a lot of conflicting information around.

Don't take this for gospel but on the basis you arrived in Madeira before 6am Sunday 20/12 when the restrictions re the UK started as you are not travelling from the UK I think you should be ok and that the rules re flying from Portugal to the Canaries will apply.

At the moment, tourists (which you are, as a non resident) are allowed if they  have the required negative test AND are booked into registered tourist accommodation. So book yourself a night at a proper hotel in FV (not airbnb etc) and you should be covered. However rules are changing daily so who knows what the situation will be by 31st - that's a lifetime away!

Disclaimer - this is my interpretation of the current rules and I may have got it wrong!
