I’ve not read this whole thread so my apologies if I’m repeating what has already been said, but on a quick skim through I thought it might be helpful to share my own experience. We had a huge (300 ltr) solar system on our roof when we moved in, and it was immediately apparent that it was both leaking, and not working correctly. After six months we took advice and had it replaced with a 100 ltr Ariston heater. The fitter recommended 80 litres, I insisted on 100, but in retrospect he was right, 80 would have been enough. The Ariston heater has a sacrificial anode, and the fitter returns every 12-18 months to replace the anode. It has been in place for just under seven years now, and shows no signs of corrosion, or any other problem. This type of heater is a bit more expensive, I know, and there is the regular cost of replacing the anode, but it’s worth it for the peace of mind…..I’ve seen the mess a burst heater can cause in another property! Oh, our bills dropped by 30% after switching from the solar system to the heater.
