What's the weather like? - January 2022

Good morning from Caleta, much as forecast yesterday, the cloud did increase late afternoon early evening and it feels cool once the sun goes down.

                  

                           

                          

This morning at 7.30am 13C with a light breeze so it feels much cooler, the only cloud is the bank out to the east over the sea, quite a bit of condensation.

                           

Today's forecast -

A mix of sun & cloud this morning with and a sunny afternoon, no rain is forecast, shade temperature to get up to 21C from 1pm through until 6pm with the UV Factor reaching 4 from 11am through until 2pm, air quality fair.

Wind from a generally Easterly direction all day at 11 to 13 kmph with gusts up to 22 kmph, easing to 7 to 9 kmph late afternoon / early evening.

Looking ahead as Tamara has indicated they are forecasting winds coming from the SE from Friday for 4 or 5 days so that is likely to mean a Calima.

Popped over to Lanzarote today - beautiful Weather. A bit of cloud around when we caught the 9.30am ferry but it had disappeared by the time we arrived in Playa Blanca. Went up to Tahiche to visit one of Caesar Manrique's houses - boy was it hot in the outdoor coffee area! Came back on 4.30pm sailing and it was still very pleasant on the open deck.

Firstly there is a YELLOW WARNING for dust (CALIMA) and wind today and tomorrow not sure why for wind as gusts don't get above 33 kmph today.

This morning at 7.50 15C,  a few scattered clouds, a light breeze and no condensation.

A mostly sunny morning and a mix of hazy sun and cloud this afternoon, no rain is forecast, shade temperature to get up to 22C at 4pm with the UV Factor reaching 4 from 11am through until 2pm, air quality is poor due to the Calima.

Wind from WSW direction this morning moving to come from the SE  / E this afternoon, wind speeds all day 19 to 22 kmph with gusts up to 33 kmph.

Still blowing a hooley over here! Friend just been to Puerto and says it's all this side of the mountains which is exactly what the AEMET warnings predicted. Calima colliding with a SW storm!

Fuerteventura once again has a strong episode of land in suspension that could accompany us for several days

A strong episode of calima arrived this noon to the island majorera. The virulence this Friday is greater than expected, and many models suggest that it will go further.

The south-east wind will continue to rise throughout the weekend,and will also continue to accompany us all next week, so the situation has no signs of improving, according to Weather models, until Friday of next week.

On Monday the land storm will join the Atlantic storm that surrounds us to the west and we will be visited by the rains that could clean part of the air, but it gives the impression that from Tuesday we will continue with these conditions.

For now, the yellow warnings for suspended dust and wind in the Archipelago will remain active this Saturday and Sunday.

 
The yellow level by calima will be extended to all the islands both on Saturday and Sunday, while La Palma is the only island that will be left out of the warning, on both days, by strong gusts of wind, which can reach 70 kilometers per hour.
 
Health recommends the most sensitive people to take precautions in the presence of calima
 
The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Public Health, in the presence of calima in suspension in the atmosphere, recommends the population to take precautions such as avoiding prolonged exposure to outdoor air, keeping windows closed and not making physical efforts outdoors.
 
Suspended dust contributes to drying out the airways and, in many cases, can cause an aggravation of conditions or symptoms related to respiratory diseases, such as asthma, people with chronic obstructive disease (COPD) that cause emergency department visits and hospital admissions to increase in some cases.
 
Exposure to this pollutant can cause chest discomfort, coughing, palpitations, fatigue or increased susceptibility to respiratory infections, at least for five days after the onset of the episode.
