Wildlife on Fuerteventura
(03-12-2019, 09:31 PM)TamaraEnLaPlaya Wrote: [Image: IWZvjHP.jpg] this little fella spent an hour on my terrace this afternoon. He was about 1" long.

[Image: P6JKCxu.jpg] any ideas who he is?

Most likely a long-horned borer beetle Tamara

Possibly Deroplia gomerae which, as the name suggests, is a native of the Canaries

Phew - thanks GF. Little Fella released to go about his business again. He hopefully appreciated the shelter from last night's rain!  Smile

The patio was covered with struggling, flying army/soldier ants this morning. I think they must have swarmed just before a heavy shower and they were all upside down with their wings stuck to the tiles. Game little things, they squirmed for about an hour until the sun got on them and then wrenched themselves off their wings and went on their way. After all their efforts I couldn't bring myself to eradicate them - it will be a different matter tomorrow, the ant death powder will be back out. Wink

Lots of these on the guaydil today:

a little wasp?

They were investigating leaves that had been sealed up by something and trying to get in through some holes. Wasn't sure if they had done the sealing and holes to lay eggs inside of or if they were predators after something else.

Gave in to curiosity and found caterpillars in some leaves and a bunch of eggs in another. I'm none the wiser!

[Image: C2fVNFm.jpg] also spotted loads of ladybirds in the same shrubs.  Thumbs Up

Just before sunset several Hummingbird Hawk moths arrived to dine on the bougainvillea but they wouldn't stay in one place long enough for a pic.

A tiny cricket in the road today, went for a walk with the dog and I for about 100M.  Big Grin

My dog then chased a dove away from an empty planter, the dove squawked as it took off and when I looked in later I could see why!

it was doing quite a good job of dusting out the runner  Big Grin  but I despatched it to the garden tout de suite!
