Love was in the air this afternoon:



Saw my pair of garden doves both out together this afternoon so I went to have a long range look at their nest - I could see a ball of fuzz so looks like egg(s) has hatched.

This sparrow took great exception to me pruning my bougainvilleas - kept up a loud squawking all day! I had checked carefully that there were no nests in residence before I started, think he just likes the shrubbery as a food source and lookout point.



and this lizard wanted in on the act - under my feet and tools all day!

A gecko got indoors a few days ago but I was worried he would starve. This morning I found him on a ceiling low enough to sweep him down with the broom into a bucket and put him outside. He stayed in the flower bed where I placed him for a couple of hours and then disappeared.

 

and found this little fella on the trunk of a flamboyante tree - he'd coloured himself to match the leaves:

Walking my dog this afternoon I heard strange snuffling and crunching sounds - investigation found a hedgehog munching on snails.

I was lying on a sunbed in the Barcello one afternoon when I heard snuffling noixes. I looked down and there was a hedgehog underneath my bed.  It toddled of into a nearby bush.

Found this dead insect today. I've often seen them building 'nests' on walls with I believe a mix of dirt and their saliva/similar. Anyone know what they are?

It is a type of mud dauber wasp.  Fairly common, generally peaceful and although a predator, stings a rare.

Yes, a potter wasp. If you remove the nest, you'll find it full of live caterpillars on which the potter wasp young feed.

Love was in the air today for this pair! Love the way their tails form a heart shape

For the first time this year I spotted baby ground squirrels when on my dog walk. I dislike the animal in principle, being an invasive rodent, but even I have to admit the babies are cute little bundles of fluff. As soon as they saw my dog they scampered back into the rock walls but couldn't resist peeping out! I can spot 2 in  this pic.
