Crime of theft worth € 2,500 in a tourist apartment in Antigua.
The Civil Guard of the Post of Puerto del Rosario arrested on November 28 a 40-year-old man with numerous records of the same nature, for committing a crime of theft inside an apartment of a hotel complex, since tourists had left the sliding door without the key passed and were also sleeping inside, therefore, the alleged author took advantage of these circumstances to steal Money and various objects valued at 2,500 euros, which happened in the municipality of Antigua.
Knowledge of the facts
The Civil Guard was aware of the Events that occurred as a result of a complaint filed at the Puerto del Rosario Post on November 15, by the injured people, being tourists from the same family, which after waking up, realize that objects of their property are not in place, checking that the access door was open.
Among the stolen objects reported by the victims were a fanny pack containing personal documentation, credit cards, Money, an e-book and two state-of-the-art telephones, valued at 2,500 euros.
The offender committed the crime of theft due to the carelessness of the tourists, who previously went to bed had left one of the accesses of the apartment open, therefore the alleged author took advantage of the darkness of the night to enter the room and carry out the criminal act.
Initiation and development of research
The Civil Guard began the appropriate Police investigations and the various steps for the clarification of the facts, carrying out the geolocation of the stolen mobile phones, which determined that they were in a complex of Costa Antigua located about 2.5 kilometers from the place where the victims were staying, also limiting the last hour of connection of one of the terminals.
On the part of the agents responsible for the investigation, the recordings of the security cameras of the related complex were requested, whose meticulous viewing of the images shows the access through the door of the complex of a man on a bicycle carrying an object hanging to his chest and may be a fanny pack.
Later with the data obtained, they led the investigators to the identification of the individual who appears in the cameras, which is recognized by the agents, being subject to previous Police interventions and of which an extensive criminal history is known, not accessing the interior of the apartments anyone other than this person during the requested time slot.
Likewise, taking into account the time frame in which the facts are reported, as well as the time at which the suspect accesses the interior of the hotel establishment where he resides and that he goes with a bicycle, the agents carried out a detailed analysis of the route in that means of transport between the place of occurrence of the facts to the point of disconnection of the mobile terminal provided by the geolocation system, fully coinciding with the possibility that the displacement of the effects between both points would have been carried out in this way.
Subsequently, on November 22, 2022, it was verified that the phone was still activated and providing geolocation inside the same complex at those 2.5 km away from where the crime is committed, specifically located in the middle of 5 apartments arranged online, also coinciding with the address of the alleged perpetrator.
Finally, on November 28, in the framework of the Police operation in order to clarify the facts, the person involved was arrested, also achieving the recovery of most of the effects reported as stolen.
The detainee along with the relevant proceedings has been made available to the corresponding Court of Instruction in functions guard of Puerto del Rosario.
