One person was arrested for the theft of 87 kilos of copper from lighting in Caleta de Fuste
The damage is valued at 5,765 euros and the Civil Guard identified a person who had made five different sales of the stolen material.
The Civil Guard of Fuerteventura in coordination with the Local Police of Antigua, has carried out an investigation related to the National Plan against copper theft, proceeding to the arrest on July 24, 2024, of a person with numerous records for crimes against property, for the theft of 87 kilograms of copper that were extracted from the public lighting of Caleta de Fuste, affected Verol, Aulaga, Sávila and Pitera streets, causing damage that exceeds 5,700 euros.
The Civil Guard of the Puerto del Rosario Post, became aware of the facts as a result of a complaint made by a representative of the City Council of Antigua, in which it was shown that since July 12, different breakdowns have been detected in the lighting of the Streets, having been moved, on several different occasions, municipal workers who would have confirmed the absence of the ground cable lines of the streetlights, causing derivations that presumably had caused the power supply to be cut off, leaving one of the busiest areas of Caleta de Fuste without electricity.

The Judicial Police Team of Puerto del Rosario quickly began the investigation, focusing the investigations on a detailed analysis of the sales of copper that may have been made in the metal recovery and waste management centers, detecting up to five different sales since the beginning of July in one of the centers established on the island of Fuerteventura. being a considerable quantity and type of copper always dispensed by the same person.
Based on the previous monitoring and as a result of Police collaboration with the Local Police of Antigua, the suspect was located in the vicinity of the affected streets with a specific tool useful to commit the reported acts, after the requirement of a citizen who claimed to have seen this individual manipulate the manholes of the lampposts.
On the other hand, it was possible to prove that the origin of the copper dispensed in the waste management center was directly related to the stolen metal according to the advice of municipal electrical technicians, they were able to verify how the person who had executed the sales, had numerous Police records for crimes against property, all of them directly related to copper theft, establishing a large Police operation in the town of Caleta de Fuste, where the alleged perpetrator of the Events was arrested.
The proceedings carried out by the Civil Guard, together with the detainee were sent to the Court of Instruction on duty in Puerto del Rosario.
