A joint operation by Customs Surveillance, the National Police and the Civil Guard has resulted in the seizure of 2,500 kilos of cocaine transported by a semi-rigid boat with a cabin in waters near the Canary Islands, specifically 400 miles west of the archipelago.
According to the first estimates, and in the absence of official weighing, 86 bales with 2,500 kilos of cocaine in total were transported on this Polish-flagged vessel, and the two people, both of French nationality, who were travelling on it have been arrested, as reported this Saturday by the delegation of the Tax Agency in the Canary Islands in a statement.
The narcotic substance was distributed inside the boat without any concealment technique, which makes the investigators think that a transfer would be carried out to another or other vessels that would be in charge of introducing the drug into the Iberian Peninsula.
The Tax Agency has highlighted that the operation, which was coordinated by the Intelligence Centre with Terrorism and Organised Crime (CITCO), was carried out in adverse Weather conditions, as there was a rough sea.
The boat, the seized drugs and the two detainees have arrived at the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife this Saturday, where the narcotic substance will be weighed and where the two arrested people will be brought to justice.
This operation, the Tax Agency has highlighted, is part of the set of operations that are launched to fight drug trafficking on the so-called 'Atlantic Route' of cocaine, with transshipment of the narcotic substance from America and the Caribbean in Atlantic waters for its subsequent introduction into the European market.
