Arrested for not taking care of his stepfather and keeping him in unsanitary conditions in Fuerteventura
The victim, an octogenarian, was found in the detainee's home in an advanced state of malnutrition and dehydration.
National Police Fuerteventura
The National Police have arrested a 53-year-old man in Fuerteventura as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of physical abuse within the family.
In 2011, the detainee took care of his mother and stepfather, the year in which the victim's natural daughter began a long process of complaints requesting, without success, to be able to see her father, as well as the incapacitation of both her father and her stepmother.
After the death of the detainee's mother, he continues to take care of the victim and collect her pension.
Agents of the National Police, together with the Local Police and Social Services of the city of Puerto del Rosario, carried out the investigation and monitoring of the unsanitary conditions in which the man lived; being unattended for long hours of the day, remaining in a room whose window was always closed and without receiving food or drink.
As a result of this investigation, it was discovered that the arrested man frequented some bars and gambling halls in the capital of the island of Fuerteventura, leaving his stepfather unattended.
After verifying the unsanitary conditions in which the man was living, the officers carried out the necessary procedures to transfer the victim by ambulance to the medical center where he was treated and subsequently transferred to the General Hospital due to his severe malnutrition and dehydration, among other pathologies.
In addition, the victim's stepson was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of physical abuse in the family environment, and the case is awaiting trial, with the competent judge having ordered a restraining order for the detainee to remain in contact with his stepfather.
