Arrested for storing/sharing child pornography
#1
Radio Sintonia:

A computer scientist who possessed 19 hard drives and eleven USB sticks where he stored child pornography files was arrested in Puerto del Rosario.

In a statement issued this morning, the National Police reports the arrest of eleven people for sharing child pornography through peer-to-peer networks, all of them in the province of Las Palmas. Among those arrested is a computer scientist from Puerto del Rosario who had 19 hard drives and eleven USB sticks seized from which he stored these types of files.

Permanent monitoring of unloading platforms

In the press release, it is highlighted that agents specialized in the fight against cybercrime permanently monitor the different file download platforms to detect users who distribute material related to the sexual exploitation of minors and paralyze their expansion on the Internet, as well as identify the victims. As a result of these digital tracking activities, a device focused on the Canary Islands was designed, in order to identify and arrest people who favored the exchange of this illicit material through P2P networks.

In the first phase of the investigation, the agents focused the efforts on a computer scientist from Puerto del Rosario who had high computer knowledge since he was able to design complex and sophisticated security measures to try to hide his possible trace on the network. In the entry and search of his home, 19 hard drives and eleven USB sticks were seized and, in an initial analysis of his devices, the agents calculate in hundreds of thousands of files with child pornography content.

In total, agents have arrested eleven people for the use of these computer tools to share child pornography, all of them in the province of Las Palmas. It should be noted that the agents have obtained a large number of devices - 11 computers, 45 hard drives, 46 USB sticks, 18 memory cards, eight mobile phones and two tablets - so efforts continue to identify and locate the minor victims of these crimes.

Finally, the note states that the agents advise that, in the case of receiving images of child pornography on our devices, to report it to the authorities immediately. To this end, the National Police has an email denuncias.pornografía.infantil@policia.es, where citizens can report this point.
