Archer, you need to get back to BBVA to establish what the charge was for. The rest of us need to know what triggered the €21.

Tom.
I'm having difficulty getting anything out of BBVA. They do not respond and explain why this transfer in was so expensive, and other transfers had no charge.

I will advise, when I find out. Don't hold your breath, as it may take a while!

Just a little heads up to anyone transferring to BBVA as we hit a little bump on the road!

BBVA got all our direct debits from Sabadell, but not complete information for all of them!  We were asked to supply the payment references for several (water, phone etc).

Fortunately, there is an area in the Sabadell online where you can get a print out of all the information, so we have been able to pass that over to BBVA.

Quite why Sabadell only supplied partial information remains a mystery, but just be aware that you might get the same problem, so get a print out before you start the process.

This reply might be a heads up for anyone who wishes to start the process of getting rid of your Spanish bank account. First, it seemed impossible especially because of Caaf. They have old forms for changing your bank account, because of this, their administration don't accept another European bank when you fill it in as they present it to you. But, we skipped the bank location code in the form and left it empty! That was the whole trick. If you fill it in that way they DO accept another European bank. We also after several visits in person at the ayuntamiento and at Endesa managed to get through their bureacratic systems. So we got rid of our horrendous Spanish Caixa bank account 'torture', after several years of too high payments for unnecessary, unwanted, illogical services, administration costs, our needless air travels just to show up with official papers, pay again and again to sign in person at the location (hardly occupied with personnel a few hours a week).

We prepared our abandonment one year, to get our bank account empty (no transfer costs under 20 euro), moving it all to our (still reasonable) ING European account, just in time before a new trimester of administration costs would be robbed. Our joy is unfailingly, whishing ya'all the same.

Be warned, BBVA Online account is not free, all the time.

We got caught out on the very first transfer of only 100 euro.

We transferred 100 euro, as a start, because BBVA sent us a warning push message that we would be subject to penalty charges if we went overdrawn, and they advised an initial transfer of 100 euros.

We did the transfer with a SEPA debit in Euros.

BBVA rewarded us by making a charge of 21 euros. Yes, this represents a fee of 21% !!

Since then I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get a response from BBVA - thus exposing another shortfall of their online account - no-one wants to talk to you!

Eventually got Reclamations to answer, after THREE ATTEMPTS. And they inform me that SEPA transfers incurr a 0.4% fee ....but here's the catch, there is a minimum charge fee of 21 EUROS.

Be warned.

I don't have an answer for this. Like you, I got an email suggesting I transfer some Money over, so I moved €1,000 from Sabadell.  It arrived in seconds, and the full sum is sitting there, without any deduction for fees of any deduction whatsoever.

As I'm almost deaf, I don't do phone calls, so I contact BBVA only by email (and the bank have noted only to contact me by email) and so far, every query has been resolved by email.

I can only say, try an email to seek a solution (Google translate being absolutely essential)!!

Thanks, Tom.

I'm just unlucky I guess. I acted hastily, to meet their request to transfer 100 euro minimum. I had not seen anywhere that there was a minimum fee charge of 21 euro.

I have been advised to take it up with the BBVA Ombudsman, first, as I got no joy from their complaints department.

As a matter of interest, where did you get an email address, to use, and can you share it, please?

Thanks Tom.

Hi Archer,

I somehow managed to mess up my password, so I clicked the forgot password link and followed through several pages but arrived at a page that gave me three options: I call them, they call me or click here to email. As the first two are not an option for me (my hearing loss means I don't do phone calls), so I clicked the third option typed up the details and got a link to reset my password.

I've tried finding an email address and failed and I don't want to do the forgot password link again in case I muck up my password again, so I'm stuck!

Can only suggest you go by phone and ask for and email address.

Hope that works for you.

Tom.
