Seeking UK bank account
#1
Hi,

We are permanently settled in Fuerteventura and have just sold our former home in the UK. We need to open another bank account in the UK to deposit part of the purchase price. Our current bank will have the maximum under the FSC bank compensation scheme, so don't want to put it in there. Any British residents who can recommend a UK bank that will open a easy access savings account for us ex-pats?

Thanks in anticipation.

Tom.

Tom, I believe you have to be a resident in the moment of opening an account with any FCA regulated UK bank or society.

This being said, there might be some ways.

Not sure how big of sum we're talking about. Anyway, FSCS usually covers £85k per standard account. Now, if you have a join account, you're covered up to £170k. https://www.fscs.org.uk/check/check-your...protected/

Another way would be joining Revolut and Wise as a Spanish resident. Exchange the GBP to EUR and you're covered up to €100k at each. If you need to cover more Money, you can always send some (up to €100k) to whatever Spanish bank you are currently Banking with.

Trade Republic in Germany might be another option, they are similar to Revolut but paya better interest rate.
