Caldereta to Airport New Road
#21
The problem was not lack of penalty clauses but lack of funds. The North section of the road was continually being put on hold as there were no funds to continue paying the contractors. It was the fault of the Canarian Government, not the road builders, and we could easily see the same happen with this stretch

I have been seeing a lot of work happening in the various areas.

If I find some time and my wife is willing to act like a paparazzi on a drive-by - I will try to get some various shots.
Planning to buy a drone as well... so if I can sneak off road around the back, I might be able to get some aerial shots.

Today at the ring road it looked like they were preparing the On Ramp from RR to New Road.

from Radio Sintonia:

The Minister of Public Works foresees that by 2022 Fuerteventura will have the first section of the La Caldereta-Airport road

The Minister of Public Works, Transport and Housing of the Government of the Canary Islands, Sebastián Franquis, announced today that the good progress of the works that the Ministry is executing in the section La Caldereta-Puerto del Rosario-Airport, included in the North-South axis of Fuerteventura, will allow to put into service in the approximate period of one year a first route of five kilometers of this new road between the links of La Caldereta and Guisguey. This section of the island axis of Fuerteventura was awarded by the Ministry in 2020 for a value of 92,098,903 euros and the works, whose execution period is 54 months, began in September last year.

The counselor Franquis, at the end of the 11 months of start, said that the works are going at a very good pace since all the land that should be expropriated is available and that has allowed that 95% of the route of the new road is already being worked on. The good pace of the works that are being developed in this work will allow to open in the summer of next year a first section of five kilometers and it is expected in March 2023 to also open the section between Guisgey and La Hondura. Franquis today supervised the state of the works with a visit to the work in which he was accompanied by the president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, and the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez.

"This is one of the most important works that are being executed in the islands due to its volume of investment, more than 92 million euros, and in addition to those with the best pace of execution," said The Minister Franquis, "we are fulfilling all the forecasts we had with this work and in today's visit we have been able to verify that all the guarantees that it will be fulfilled in the expected times and could even advance the completion of the work a few months before. Therefore, it is a great satisfaction to see that we are facing a work that has no difficulties and that is advancing within the deadlines, a very important work for Fuerteventura for what it means in terms of mobility, and also for the important investment it represents for the island in economic terms and job creation that with the situation we are living of crisis especially on this island and in Lanzarote because logically it's good news."

The technical managers of the work explained to the counselor that in the first 11 months of work the UTE that executes them, formed by OHL, Satocan and Cororasa, has already proceeded to important earthworks throughout the trace, with six clearings already begun. Approximately 20 drainage works have been carried out (mainly channeling of ravines), half of those planned throughout the project, so that the land is already available for the execution of the embankments with the material from the dismantling and excavations for the structures.

In addition, the underpass of the Guisguey link has been completely executed, a reinforced concrete portico of 48.57 meters in length, 12 meters of light and gauge of 5.30 meters. The excavation has been completed and the foundation of the underpass of the La Caldereta link has begun, with characteristics similar to that of Guisguey, but of a higher length since it reaches 62.67 meters.

This section between La Caldereta and the Airport includes a 17-kilometer highway, with separate roads of two lanes in each direction that will allow circulation at 120 kilometers per hour, in addition to having five links (those of Antigua, La Oliva, La Hondura, Guisguey and Caldereta) and three roundabouts (Airport, access to the Hospital and La Hondura) along the road.

This new route will connect the section already put into service of the FV-2 that connects La Caldereta and Corralejo, so the connection between the north of Fuerteventura and the airport of the island will be defined by a four-lane fast track when the works are finished.

The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Sergio Lloret, valued the good progress in the execution, and that there is "no incidence that makes us venture any difficulty. It is to be appreciated the effort of the contract in maintaining the pace of execution of a North-South Axis necessary for Fuerteventura. And equally, the good disposition of the counselor and his team."

For his part, the mayor of Puerto del Rosario, Juan Jiménez, thanked the visit of the counselor and pointed out that this project "started almost a year ago, will possibly see in March of next year the delivery of one of the sections of this important project, long awaited and sought after in Fuerteventura, which will be a capital milestone for land communications on our island."
In addition, thanks to this variant, it will be possible to double the capacity of the ring road to Puerto del Rosario, FV-3, which will contribute to significantly reduce the accident rate on the interurban roads of that island, increase the fluidity of circulation and reduce the acoustic incidence in the environment.

Here we are hoping Fuerte never gets as busy as Lanzarote!
Would be a shame if we suddenly started having traffic and thousands of card using the motorway!

Hopefully they planned well enough to where we never have to worry about that!
