Corralejo beach is getting a better pedestrian access

The works to create three new pedestrian accesses to the urban beaches of Corralejo have already begun. The project of the City of La Oliva "Improvement of Access to the Sea" will eliminate the blind roundabouts of three streets that overlook the coast and create in its place three platforms for pedestrian access, expanding the beach surface by 300 square meters.

The mayor of La Oliva, Isaí Blanco, said that this project represents "a very important improvement for Corralejo as a tourist resort", because "the accesses to the beaches will be for people, instead of for vehicles, connecting with greater comfort the commercial zone with the beaches ".

Isaí Blanco visited the works with the advisor and delegate of Caaf, Cabildo Andrés Díaz Matoso, the first deputy mayor and councilor of Works, Oliver González, the Councilor for Accessibility, Evelin Gómez, and the councilor of Playas, Genaro Saavedra.

The Access to the Sea works are carried out in Arístides Hernández Morán, Poseidón and La Red streets, which flow into the coast from Nuestra Señora del Carmen Avenue. Where until now there were three roundabouts, planked platforms will be installed with services such as showers, a new paved pedestrian space with parking for bicycles and widening of the adjoining side walks.

Oliver Gonzalez explained that "at the moment are being executed in the municipality accessibility improvement works valued at one million euros, as the second phase of the Accessibility Plan of Corralejo, a new access to El Cotillo Muellito, or the creation of a new stretch of bike lane in the upper part of Nuestra Señora del Carmen, and in addition, projects for side walks, resurfacing and channeling rainwater for a value of another 4 million euros are in the tender phase ".

The Councilor for Accessibility, Evelin Gómez, added that with these and other works, the municipality demonstrates that it is committed to making La Oliva a more accessible municipality, not only on the public roads of Corralejo, but also at a general level. Shortly, the directional bands for blind people will be installed in the stretch of Nuestra Señora del Carmen that was missing, and the Accessibility Plan will also be extended, starting with El Cotillo. "

The reform of the three streets of the "Improvement of Access to the Sea" project has been tendered in three lots. The first two have been awarded to Awarded to Obras Públicas Canarias SL, and the second to Antonio Ramón Puig Hernández.

On the other hand, on Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen a new stretch of bike lane of about 700 meters is being enabled , within the resurfacing project whose works began this week, and which will be extended over the next two months, with an investment of 293,000 euros executed by the company Satocan SA

The second phase of the Accessibility Plan (€ 425,040) is also currently being implemented in Pizarro and Malpaís streets, and will soon begin in Juan Sebastián Elcano.

The mentioned investments in Nuestra Señora del Carmen, access to the beaches of Corralejo or the Accessibility Plan are projects drawn up by the City Council of La Oliva, tendered from this institution, and framed in the FDCAN Fuerteventura 2017-2020 Program, which has the participation of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura in its planning, processing and part of its financing, and with the economic boost of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Not the same project but another block of Hoplaco apartments have gone under the hammer where the access to the sea is being improved.

I bumped into Maitland from 'What's on'/'Whereabouts' the other day and he said he has closed down his office which was behind Hoplaco and now operates online for excursion bookings etc. he still produces the monthly booklet.
