The flight had to be diverted to Portugal when seven drunken passengers were involved in a brawl, one of them was arrested
A plane that covered the route between Luton airport, in London, and Lanzarote has had to be diverted to Portugal due to a brawl inside it. A total of seven people were involved in this incident on a flight to the Canary Islands.
According to the Daily Mail, Portuguese authorities have confirmed that seven people were involved in the altercation and that one of them has been arrested. According to the newspaper's sources, all those involved would be British.
The flight to the Canary Islands left London Luton airport today at 8 a.m. and was due to arrive in Lanzarote at 12.15 p.m. local time. However, it was diverted to Faro and landed at the airport in Portugal's Algarve region at around 10.50am local time.
According to a witness, several tourists, who had consumed alcohol, reprimanded other passengers, and part of the crew had to intervene. At one point, one of those tourists hit the flight attendant, so the plane was diverted to Portugal.
In just 20 minutes the plane landed, but several Portuguese Police officers had to get the assailant off the plane after he decided to turn back.
