Fuerteventura presents a firefighting platform with unmanned aircraft.
The signing of the agreement between the Cabildo and the UTE Telezpacio Ibérica SLU Pegasus Aviación S.A., took place this Tuesday in Madrid
Fuerteventura will install one of the largest Spanish technological platforms in fire prevention and other environmental actions, based on the use of unmanned aircraft such as drones and satellites, and which will have a budget of 22 million euros.
The president of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura, Lola García, and the temporary joint venture (UTE) Telespazio Iberica SLU Pegasus Aviación SA, through its CEO, Carlos Fernández de la Peña, signed the action agreement on Tuesday at a ceremony at the Delegation of the Government of the Canary Islands in Madrid.
According to sources from the project, the platform is expected to be launched during the month of March, since two thirds of the team is ready to start working.
During his speech at the event, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, highlighted the importance of this project being located on a non-capital island of the archipelago and how it places technology at the service of citizens.
"We have to put the citizen at the centre of the system," said Clavijo, who added that a platform of this magnitude "will serve to make a better, safer life".

In this sense, Lola García has described the platform as a tool to diversify the island's economy, since it will help, in her opinion, to generate employment, retain talent and give new opportunities to small and medium-sized companies in Fuerteventura.
The Centre for the Development of Solutions, Emergencies and Biodiversity (ISSEC), installed in the Fuerteventura Technology Park, will have 40 direct jobs, within the Canarias Geo Innovation Program 2030.
The president of the council wanted to endorse the environmental impact of this infrastructure, which will help in the prevention of fires such as the one that devastated thousands of hectares in Tenerife in August 2023.
The ISSEC is intended to create, develop or operate security solutions so that, through the data collected by sensors located on unmanned platforms, emergencies in biodiversity areas such as the fight against forest fires, marine pollution or the protection of natural parks and public heritage can be treated.
Finally, Fernández de la Peña recalled that phenomena such as rising temperatures, drought or poor management of biodiversity have made it difficult to manage this situation today, which is why it is necessary to find innovative solutions in this field.
