Global Climate Strike in Fuerteventura
#1
27th September 2019, Fuerteventura joins the global initiative against Climate Change being carried out by international organizations such as 'Fridays for Future', initiated in Sweden by Greta Thunberg, with a 'March for the climate' that will tour Puerto del Rosario.

Oasis WildLIfe Fuerteventura and the Chekipa Foundation, join the organization of this march, along with media such as Diario de Fuerteventura, El Enfoque, Onda Fuerteventura, COPE Fuerteventura, Radio Sintonía, Dunas FM and Fuerteventura Digital ; companies such as Hotel Fuerteventura Princess, Hotel Mirador de Fuerteventura, Playitas Resort, Club Aldiana Hotel, Wind Crines, Verdeaurora, Fuerteventura Cattle Group, Master D Veterinary School, Impakto Agency or the Excellfuert association; non-profit organizations such as Limpiaventura, and the Council of Youth of the Canary Islands.

These organizations want to support, with their support, the work of all young people in defense of our planet and our environment, and they hope that other companies and administrations of the Island will join it to achieve the greatest success of this march.

The worldwide movement "Friday's for Future", to which more than 120 countries have joined, stands out for its independence with respect to organizations and political parties. It is led by students and has also been supported by more than 15,000 European and US scientists. In Spain the proposal is developed by the Youth for Climate organization, to which Oasis WildLife and the Chekipa Foundation are now joining this march, together with other companies and organizations of the Majoreras.

The demonstration of Fuerteventura will begin in front of the Government Delegation in Puerto del Rosario and will arrive to Playa Chica, where it will end with an event and the reading of a manifesto.

Hundreds of young people

The meeting seeks to support all young people who want to go out to defend the environment, so that they can contribute their ideas and their concerns are taken into account. "Many young people are aware that their future, and ours, depends on the protection of our environment, but they are not always given the opportunity to be heard, and, we want to help them in this initiative," said Guacimara Cabrera, director of marketing and communication of Oasis WildLife Fuerteventura.

"From Oasis Wildlife Fuerteventura and the Chekipa Foundation, we believe it is urgent and necessary to reinforce all initiatives against climate change, we are facing the sixth extinction and the rate of disappearance of species is 100 times greater in this century. take the necessary measures to turn this disastrous data and for that reason, we want to collaborate in the organization of this march, "he assured.

"Young people are the present, and they should be the ones who raise awareness and commit the whole society, including institutions, to work decisively to preserve our environment and protect all species that are now in danger," said Cabrera. "This day wants to bring together hundreds of young people, who can accompany their parents, teachers, political representatives of all administrations, employers etc ..."

The fight against climate change will be in this protest march, but also seeks to be educational. During the previous week, and the same day of the event, different activities and workshops will be carried out, proposed by them in educational centres and in companies, in what will be called 'Week of action for the climate'.

The Corporation and municipal staff invite citizens to concentrate on the City Hall doors at 12: 00h, on Friday, September 27 , where a manifesto will be read and a minute of silence will be kept on the planet. The municipal institution encourages citizens to also participate in the Events scheduled by the various platforms, associations and groups.

The City Council of Puerto del Rosario supports the Events scheduled for the global mobilization against climate change, this coming September 27, as a sign of solidarity and a call to the governments for the need to drastically reduce carbon dioxide emissions, that are at the base of climate change on our planet. Greenhouse gases globally increased by 2.2% in 2018, another symptom of environmental changes that have progressively raised the average temperatures and the gradual disappearance of many animal and plant species, as well as increasing droughts and thawing of the poles, as well as the elevation of the sea level slowly and inexorably.

I'm sure things will get better. The biggest issue with wind power right now is that too many people complain about the turbines. El Hierro is already 100% (energy) green, the big islands will follow.

"How much will the price of diesel be in 10 years time? There will be plenty of free wind Wink People just need to see the Money and all will jump on the green bandwagon. Fingers Crossed

According to report on the BBC, windmills can cause more pollution than cars

Everyone is jumping on this climate change bandwagon without really thinkinv though the solutions.

We need to change how we do things but NOT at the detriment of everyone's life.

I probably am going to stir a hornets nest with this comment, it is all well and good talking about fossil fuels, use of cars solar power etc but IMO there is one big issue that is over looked - Birth Control!!!  Look at the world population today compared to what it was 100 years ago, no wonder we are using so much more of the planets fragile resources to feed the ever increasing demand and need of the world population.

You cannot argue the logic of that John, but does anyone remember the torrent of press abuse and general condemnation the Chinese Government got when it introduced its one child policy?
