Since the company Binter Canarias decided to enter the mainland market and, especially on its regular flights between Gran Canaria-Madrid and Tenerife-Madrid, with four outbound and four return planes, travelling between the archipelago and Madrid is cheaper.
Undoubtedly, the so-called free market of competition has worked in this case in favour of the citizen, who has benefited significantly from the entry of Binter Canarias, with an average drop of 30% compared to what it cost to travel before 2024. For example, you can find flights to Madrid for residents for less than 50 euros, round trip, in the month of June.
Iberia Express, a low-cost airline, has been applying the so-called Canary Islands Tariff for a few weeks now, with special low rates and very advantageous conditions when it comes to changing tickets, greater flexibility and other advantages. Of course, this so-called Canary Islands Tariff, which was born after the appearance of Binter, curiously excludes Fuerteventura and other less populated islands such as Lanzarote and La Palma, where there are direct flights to Madrid.
Apparently, this commercial strategy used by Iberia Express is to prevent Binter Canarias, in its risky and powerful bet to compete on a one-to-one basis with the big companies in its links with Madrid, from consolidating and even taking over a large part of Air Europa's passengers. In this regard, it should be noted that Brussels will approve the purchase of Air Europa by Iberia in June 2024. This will involve an outlay of 500 million euros and the company will get more than one and a half million passengers.
In short, Binter's entry into Madrid has been very good for the residents of the Canary Islands and in general because of the competition and we hope that it can withstand the onslaught of companies as strong as Iberia and others. A Canarian analyst pointed out that the Canarians should celebrate the expansion of Binter Canarias in the last decade with a commitment to connect the island with the African and European continents.
