The Cabildo of Fuerteventura calls for citizen responsibility for the correct treatment of waste
The Cabildo, through the areas of Environment and Waste, calls for citizen responsibility for the correct treatment of waste in Fuerteventura. The discovery of a series of uralite-type plates, with possible asbestos content, illegally deposited in the area of Montaña del Sombrero (municipality of Antigua). The Island Corporation warns of the serious danger it poses to natural spaces, the health and well-being of people, this being an attack on the environment and a very serious crime typified in the Law on Waste and Contaminated Soils.
Currently, the Cabildo is investigating the finding to find the offenders, in the face of a crime that can carry penalties from 100,000 to 600,000 euros. Likewise, the Island Corporation reminds that, in the event of this type of waste, an authorised manager must be notified because it is a material that is harmful to health.
In the case of ordinary household waste, the Waste area communicates that there are four clean points in Fuerteventura: Lajares (La Oliva), Risco Prieto (Puerto del Rosario), Tuineje and Mal Nombre (Pájara), avoiding its dumping in natural areas or in containers intended for other use.
At the same time, awareness campaigns are being developed to raise awareness among citizens about the importance of proper waste treatment, sustainability and the circular economy.
