Internet without landline?
#1
Please can anyone recommend internet service without needing landline in Caleta? Don't need TV and would prefer one that can be suspended during periods of absence.

Hi Emmi,
We have Net Services. It’s an antenna based system so doesn’t need a landline. Currently from 35€ per month on the small setting (enough for emails browsing etc but not streaming). I am pretty sure Johnrugby still uses their service in Caleta & I believe is quite happy with it. You only need to pay (per month) when required, cheers . . Ron

Yes I use Netservices and as Ron says I am more than happy with them, the issue you might have is if you want to pay monthly and stop for periods they will charge for installation, I cannot remember how much, but if you enter into a twelve month contract they install for free, as Ron can testify to I have tried most and although they promise the earth the provide didly squat.

I have netservice and pay for 6mb but have yet to see it, normally 2.5 but when it gets busy here has trouble loading anything at all, even a blank google page times out, sent emails were just ignored.

Best I've tried is Orange using a sim card router, tested two routers both showed 18mb for 45 a month unlimited and pay as you go, strange thing is their office deny they have the service. I believe Movistar offer the same through a sister company called Fusion, though Movistar have a terrible reputation for service, best tip for that is always ring head office if possible

We have tried them all as previously stated, but now pay for 24Mbpsand generally get between 20/25mbps it does on occasions drop but I then Email them and usually within a couple of hours it is back working properly,I must add that fom our property we can see their mast.

I had heard from other users of Netservice they throttle usage of their lower bandwidth to force people to pay more to upgrade, the fact you can contact them and it speeds up suggests the same. Last time I had to call them out after it became unusable the guy said before leaving to give it half an hour first for him to get back to his office before testing again which suggests that is the case

Same here. We have been fans, especially since you can order your service before you leave. You have the option to pay via Paypal or credit card online, or in person the day after you arrive. They're up in the Montecastillo Centre, and we've found them pretty great to deal with. Best value is to book for six months— €300 for 20mbps, which works out at under €12 a week. Speed has always been decent, even in busy periods— we were on the 15mb package before this, which has since been upgraded to 20, and it never dropped to a complete crawl, though TV can be a minor challenge at peak times. Hopefully it will be as good this winter!

One (huge) caveat, though: their payment structure is beyond absurd. Paying by the week, it's something like €30 for the first week and then €5 for weeks 2, 3, and 4... And then another €30 if you go into week 5! Followed by three more weeks at €5... So, if you can structure it that you never have to pay for a 5 week period, it's great value. If you often stay 5-6 weeks, you're in for a lot of annoyance. I've spoken to them about changing this before, but they say it is impossible...  Rolleyes

Slower speeds are available for cheaper, but not by much. They're very knowledgeable, though, and pretty pleasant to deal with aside that one issue with the payment structure. Hope that helps!

I've been with Fuerte Wifi for 13 years - a very good internet connection and service.

My neighbours are also with them, and they only pay for the times they are here on the island.
