Invitation Letter Help :)
#1
Afternoon,

I’m hoping someone on here may have some up to date info / experience in relation to ‘Letter of invitation’ requirements and if they are being enforced (I can’t see anything since around 2021 when searching).

I was planning on coming to the Island in August to stay for a maximum of 2 weeks at a family’s address. My family aren’t currently living on the island so their address is empty. As a result they aren’t able to physically attend a Police Station to apply for a letter of invitation that I have been made aware may be a requirement and aren’t planning to come to the Island before I would.

On entering at the airport has anyone had experience of being asked to show proof of where you will be staying (booking confirmations / letters of invitation etc). Obviously if I kept plans as they are I wouldn’t have anything to be able to show where I am staying (family don’t rent out the property or anything when they are not there, just occasionally I or other family stay for a holiday but not for a few years). The only documentation I would have would be my flight details (for the return journey).

I’d rather not have to book a hotel or somewhere else to stay however also don’t want to arrive and have issues at the airport.

If anyone has any recent experience it would be appreciated.

Thanks Smile

We had Family arrive on Monday, the 18th, with no problems at all, it is the UK press scaremongering.

Many years ago before UK joined EU we had to show proof of secured accommodation. Now UK non EU maybe reverted back to same.
I don't know but may be best to do further research just in case. C A website or the like may have info.

That's a link, another one of these things that I think technically you may need, but I haven't heard of anyone being asked for one. A bit like having proof you have sufficient finances for your stay

No one is suggesting this law/rule does not exist, we all know it does, it is simply NOT being implemented, whether it will in the future is another matter, but currently, it is not.

Since the start of the year we have been asked to provide details of friends or family staying at our apartment. We are given a link to an app via our agent and they provide passport details even if they are travelling over with us. This is new as never been asked before.

Can you explain what your Agent does? I repeat we had Family arrive last Monday with no problems whatsoever.

If your family can't apply and their place is empty, contacting immigration or the airport directly might help. Booking a hotel could be a backup plan, but it's a hassle.
